So many BDRs just rip through their book of business with little rhyme or reason. They convert 3-5% of their connects or see 1% reply rates. This is because they’re reaching out to prospects when they don’t have clear context for the conversation. Without something to anchor your discussion, the typical personalization + pitch falls flat. Here’s a 4-step process to help you create context: 1. Watch for Triggers Start by identifying events that signal a shift in your prospect’s world. Whether it’s a leadership change, layoffs, rapid expansion, or industry disruption, these events open up new challenges and needs. Knowing what to look for is key. 2. Make a Problem Hypothesis Based on the trigger event, ask yourself: What challenges might the company be facing? Are employees overwhelmed? Are operations disrupted? 3. Assess the Cost of Inaction Once you’ve identified the problem, consider the consequences if they don’t address it. Will they lose top talent? Suffer operational inefficiencies? You’ve gotta understand whether this is “ibuprofen pain” or “emergency room pain”. 4. Tailor Your Value Proposition Connect the dots. Position your thing in the context of the problem. Intersect value and relevance. At Spring Health, we brainstormed over 50 triggers that might affect our buyer.
