The National Endowment for the Humanities is supporting the “Pathway to Chaplaincy Project” through a two-year Humanities Initiatives Grant. Humanities Initiatives Grants are intended to “strengthen the teaching and study of the humanities at colleges and universities by supporting the development of new or enhancement of existing programs, educational resources, or courses that explore, interpret, and preserve the diversity of human cultures, ideas, and practices, past and present.” GSU’s Graduate Pathway to Chaplaincy opened in the fall of 2024 in partnership with the Association of Professional Chaplains and is the first of its kind at a public university in the United States. Co-PIs Andrew Walker-Cornetta and Molly Bassett will direct the “Pathway to Chaplaincy Project,” which aims to bring nationally recognized speakers to campus; involve GSU faculty from across the university in developing courses for the Pathway; establish an advisory board comprised of faculty, community partners, and alumni; and create a guide for other institutions interested in opening similar programs. The grant application received the support of colleagues at WellStar Health Systems, Emory Spiritual Care, and the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, and representatives of these organizations will be involved in the grant activities. The project received nearly $150,000 of funding over two years and will begin in the fall of 2025. #NEHgrant https://lnkd.in/dTxmsPvT
