Assistant Professor Janie Copple co-authored a book entitled, "Qualitative Research Design and Methods: An Introduction," which was selected as an American Educational Studies Association (AESA) Critics' Choice Book Award recipient. Fifty-two books were nominated this year and 12 were selected based on their relevance to foundations of education and the mission of AESA; originality of research; scholarly or intellectual impact on the field; and the significance of the book's topic. She will be formally recognized at the association's annual meeting in Greenville, S.C. Congratulations! #TheStateWay

New research from Georgia Policy Labs — Andrew Young School of Policy Studies finds positive effects on student learning from an online-learning platform used for pandemic recovery. GPL and its?Metro Atlanta Policy Lab for Education?(MAPLE) have been working closely with school district partners on efficacy of learning recovery in the COVID-19 pandemic’s wake. In its latest study, Assistant Professor Jennifer Darling-Aduana?and Associate Professor K. Juree Capers?find that students who used i-Ready, a personalized, adaptive online-learning platform, experienced greater standardized test score growth in math and reading than students who did not use the platform. Regents' Professor of Chemistry and GRA Eminent Scholar Binghe Wang has published new research which finds a common ingredient used in lab experiments, called DMSO, can impact measurements of harmful molecules in cells. Congratulations to Distinguished University Professor William J. Sabol, who was recently named a fellow of the American Society of Criminology! Sabol’s research expertise spans corrections, sentencing policy and crime statistics. He brings a wealth of experience to his role with a career spanning 30 years across government, private-sector research institutions and academia, including the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. After receiving an all-time record number of applications, Georgia State University's fall 2024 enrollment grew 3.8 percent, outpacing the national average college enrollment growth of 2.9 percent. The Georgia State student body — across its downtown Atlanta Campus and five metro Atlanta Georgia State University Perimeter College campuses — is larger by more than 1,900 students this fall. Enrollment across the institution grew from 50,500 in fall 2023 to 52,400 this semester. Honorees included newly appointed and re-appointed Regents' Professors and GSU Distinguished University Professors, as well as GSU faculty award winners and newly promoted and/or tenured faculty.
