Meet New GSKSMO Board of Directors' Member Dr. Tammy Robinson, President at Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City Penn Valley! Dr. Robinson joined MCC-Penn Valley in July 2024 bringing 25 years' experience as a community college administrator and instructor. As President of Penn Valley, she leads two workforce-focused facilities: the Health Science Institute and the Advanced Technical Skills Institute. GSKSMO is honored to work with both of these facilities as a community partner providing incredible experiences for our Girl Scouts. Focused on workforce development, Dr. Robinson believes in making internships, apprenticeships, and innovative community partnerships a reality to advance the mission of community colleges and open the door to more opportunities for its students and future students. She previously held the position of President of Mesa Community College and Vice President of Instruction at Ca?ada College in Redwood City, California. Dr. Robinson served as president of the National Council on Black American Affairs, an affiliate of the AACC. She has spoken at numerous conferences about the importance of educational access for underrepresented groups. She recently co-presented at Harvard University on the topic of “Surviving and Thriving as a Woman in a Multi-College System.” She has also very much been a part of Girl Scouting! We are thrilled to have her expertise, innovative approach and genuine passion for championing girls now as a guiding leader on our Board of Directors. A Win/Win for Wellness! Many of you know the kind, compassionate, and community builder Dr. Michelle Robin. You also know how busy she and her team are at the Your Wellness Connection so giving 30 Brownies & Juniors (2nd - 5th grade) her time, knowledge, and kindness means a lot!! Dr. Robin, Dr. Kelsey Crow, Dr. Victoria Murdock, and the team led an incredible wellness workshop for the Girl Scouts of Troop 3309 from Prairie Village. The power of feeling great on the inside and outside starts at their age. These Girl Scouts got a chance to learn from the very best in a fun and hands-on way. They learned about stretching, relaxation techniques, asked great questions, and enjoyed every drop of a Dr. Robin yummy green smoothie. Troop 3309 has some exceptional troop leaders in Christina Dreiling and Lacey Thomas Ellis who are always thinking about their Girl Scouts. They want their Girl Scouts to have the best experiences, learn something new, and of course have fun! We welcome Sam Lawlor to the GSKSMO Board of Directors! Samantha is a Public Finance Attorney?at Gilmore & Bell, P.C. Her work primarily focuses on 501(c)(3), low-income housing and general municipal financings. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Sam received her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and her law degree from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In her free time, she can be spotted on walks with her pride and joy (a Bernese Mountain Dog named Chili Dog), playing tennis, or learning how to use power tools in an attempt to renovate her 100-year-old house.
