After two delayed flights due to a few blizzards, we made it to Kansas City at 4 am with just enough time to make it to the state Capitol to testify on Missouri Senate Bill 90 which aims to decriminalize psilocybin for therapeutic use by veterans 21+ with PTSD, depression, or substance use disorders. It requires enrollment in studies, lab-tested doses, and Dept. of Mental Health oversight, plus $2M in grants for research. A bold step for mental health! In 2023, the VHA invested over $50M in suicide prevention programs. In 2024, presumably the same spent—yet the latest VHA Veterans Suicide Report shows zero decline in deaths. This cannot continue. It’s time for real solutions.

Last night's tragic collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport has left us all in mourning. Our hearts go out to the families of the 64 passengers, 4 crew members, and 3 soldiers who were aboard these flights. In times like these, we're reminded of the fragility of life and the bravery of our military personnel who risk it all, even in training.
