As a growth engine kicks off the sales process—bringing in leads and booking discovery calls—it's the account executive skills that turn those leads into paying customers. The first key skill is qualification. You'll often start the sales call by qualifying the prospect, without making it feel transactional. Next is discovery. This is where many salespeople stumble, as customers often don't volunteer their challenges upfront. It takes repeated questioning to uncover the real pain points. A technique we learned from Mike Manzi is asking the same question multiple times, digging deeper each time to truly understand the "why" behind the need. Finally, moving into the closing phase. There are many closing strategies, but the key is turning the conversation into a close with confidence and clarity. However, there's one factor that supersedes all these skills: targeting. The right prospect and the right offering are crucial for success. No matter how skilled you are at sales tactics, if your targeting isn't right, everything else becomes a challenge. Getting the targeting right ensures that you're addressing a big, burning problem that your solution is uniquely positioned to solve. Once you're confident in that, closing becomes less about "if" and more about "when." Focusing on the tactics is important, but don't forget the bigger picture—understanding the customer and their pain points is the real key to success. #AccountExecutiveSkills #SalesStrategy #Targeting

When you look at repeat founders, you'll notice a pattern: their second or third businesses often use the same growth engines as their first. Why is that? Once you've learned the dynamics of a growth engine, you gain a much clearer understanding of where the opportunities lie, making it easier to take a product to market. But getting the engine to work the first time is no easy feat. Even with decent product-market fit, a company in search of the right growth engine is in a tough spot. It's not just about finding the product that works—it's about identifying the right growth strategy and getting it to run smoothly. This is why mastering a growth engine is crucial—it doesn't just help you scale your first business, it sets you up for success in future ventures too. Have you figured out your growth engine yet? #GrowthEngine #BusinessGrowth #Entrepreneurship

What's your founder/market fit? When it comes to network building, this is a foundational question you need to ask. It's about more than just growing your network—it's about identifying the industries, customer groups, and solution categories you're genuinely passionate about. When you have deep interest and care for a particular space, it shines through in your outreach. One example: A company hired a VP of Marketing who had clearly been setting herself up to work in their industry for years. She started a blog, did internships, and built relationships at industry events. Her passion and authenticity made her a perfect fit. When you're clear about your interests and focus on building relationships in a way that reflects your genuine enthusiasm, everything moves faster, and better results follow. That's the power of founder market fit. It makes networking not only easier but more effective, leading to stronger, more meaningful connections. Are you focusing on the areas you're most passionate about? #FounderMarketFit #Networking #BusinessGrowth

It's unfortunate that we often feel the need to justify creative time. The reality is, most of us don't have the luxury of spending our days solely being creative. As entrepreneurs, it's easy to focus on the non-creative tasks, like administrative work, to get a product or idea out into the world. However, we shouldn't feel guilty for carving out time to focus on creativity. In fact, in the earliest days of building a company, we often dedicate much more time to being creative. Looking back, that was some of our most valuable work—despite the fact that much of it wasn't directly driving revenue. But over time, as you build a company and overcome challenges, the pendulum can swing too far the other way. You might start questioning the value of creative work, afraid it's a waste of time. The truth is, the most innovative ideas and breakthroughs often come from time spent being creative—without constantly analyzing every moment for immediate returns. So, why do we insist on justifying creative time? Perhaps it's a reminder that in entrepreneurship, creativity is not just a luxury—it's essential. #CreativeTime #Entrepreneurship #CreativeProcess

As a founder or CEO, your role is not just about managing tasks—it's about inspiring and motivating your team while navigating a sea of decisions, big and small. But to truly excel, one key skill is the ability to get into a flow state—especially when working with others. Whether you're sifting through resumes, crafting a vision for the future, or preparing a pitch deck, entering a flow state allows you to immerse yourself fully in the work and produce better results. However, being able to flow through a range of tasks is vital. As a founder, you're often faced with hours of complex, sometimes tedious work—like building a financial model. If you struggle to get into flow during these tasks, it can quickly lead to frustration and burnout. The secret? Prioritize and approach tasks in a way that aligns with your flow. Even if making that financial model isn't your favorite, the ability to ease into it and get into flow means you'll emerge with a productive outcome—and a better mindset. So, how can you, as a founder, create the right environment for flow? By aligning tasks with your strengths and recognizing that sometimes, the best work happens when you allow yourself to get lost in the process. Are you setting yourself up for success by optimizing your flow? #FounderMindset #FlowState #Entrepreneurship

The traditional approach to content creation is goal-oriented: focusing on business objectives, understanding customer challenges, and making sure every piece of content aligns with a specific target or outcome. While this structured approach is important for consistency, there's another way to approach work—one that flips the script entirely. Imagine working without strict goals or objectives, and instead, optimizing for the value of getting into a flow state. This approach embraces flexibility and creativity, allowing for deep collaboration and dialogue to drive results. It's about trusting the process and allowing your team to focus on what motivates them, just like Google's famous 20% time—where employees dedicate 20% of their time to projects they're passionate about. By fostering flow and creativity, without rigid goals, the results may surprise you. Some of the best innovations come from allowing employees to explore freely, without constraints. What would it look like if you optimized your work culture for flow instead of rigid goals? #Culture #Creativity #FlowState #Innovation
