    Chris Tottman shares a lot of great resources, but the below struck a particular chord with me:?https://lnkd.in/eQBjS5Qx. Research consistently shows that entrepreneurs with an MBA from elite institutions such as Harvard and Stanford are?significantly more likely?to scale their businesses, attract top-tier investors, and create long-term value. While some VC’s over-index on the college dropout who creates a billion-dollar company, most understand that the data on those outliers is so thin as to be unusable for determining investment. Stepping back from absolute numbers, Endeavor’s research DOES show that based on the number of graduates, elite University founders ARE more likely to find a Unicorn (especially for immigrant founders) by almost double (23% to 12% of cohort). Meanwhile consulting firms like McKinsey consistently produce more Unicorns / employees than almost any of the largest tech companies (when totaled as absolute Unicorns vs absolute Founders). But more importantly, a focus on 200 Unicorn founders gives very different results from a study of total capital raised. Here we absolutely see McKinsey alumni punching above their weight: McKinsey: 536 employees per $1 billion raised Microsoft: 2,923 employees per $1 billion raised Facebook: 3,740 employees per $1 billion raised Apple: 6,074 employees per $1 billion raised Amazon: 44,853 employees per $1 billion raised Must founders attend an elite university or a top-tier consulting firm to launch a successful startup? Absolutely not. But ignoring the data on the pathways people take to success to focus on ~60 global unicorns doesn’t serve founders or investors. #entrepreneurship #startups #venturecapital #mba #consulting

Caden L. is a junior at Columbia University, majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science. Since joining G&C in March 2023, Caden has impressed with his strategic thinking and expertise in AI and ML. He helps clients identify and target niche markets and customer segments. Nicknamed “the Penguin Intern” at Morgan Stanley for his fun fact, “I like penguins,” Caden’s unique sense of humor is matched by his intellectual prowess. Annie Dong is a sophomore at Columbia University, pursuing majors in Political Science and Statistics. Annie will apply her research and analytical skills to evaluate market opportunities, competitive landscapes, and strategic growth initiatives. She is currently training with her mother for her first marathon, set for June 2025—what an inspiration! Ayan Nath is a junior at the University of Chicago, studying Computer Science and Economics. Ayan is a master of handling complex data sets and developing sophisticated market, customer, and sales models. Outside work, he channels his creativity into building LEGO and sharing his music on his YouTube channel.     We are proud to share that Mark Watson has joined Growth & Commercial as an associate partner. Mark will be a key member of the firm's leadership team and an expert in executing growth & GTM strategies and optimizing commercial organization performance. Mark's 15-year career has focused on developing and implementing transformative commercial strategies for corporate and private equity industrial clients, large and small. Before joining Growth & Commercial, Mark held roles in FP&A at Whirlpool, case team lead at L.E.K., and senior director at Beckway. He earned his B.A. in Economics & History from Vanderbilt University and MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business.
