Feed & Seed is an aggregator for the Local Food Purchasing Assistance (LFPA) program of South Carolina Department of Agriculture (via USDA) which supports socially-disadvantaged producers and growers by purchasing, and then provides products for underserved food insecure areas. Such an honor to join in membership the historic Pendleton Farmers' Society this week. The birthplace of the discussions to found Clemson College (Clemson University), the Society continues to come together to 'solve the problems of the day' in agriculture. Our Clemson PLEAF (Palmetto Leadership for the Environment, Agriculture and Forestry) program this week included a tour of the Musser Fruit Research Center just down the road from Clemson's main campus. This was my favorite of this month's curriculum! I loved hearing the history of the site (moved to a peninsula on Hartwell when the Walker Course was needed) and PLEAF fellow, Brodie Cox (Clemson Research Specialist Outreach & Production Manager at CCPC) explaining how the site includes a 'Noah's Ark' for peaches. The Clemson Clean Plant Center was founded in 2020 to help fruit tree growers in the Southeast reduce the prevalence of viruses spread by propagation of infected material.
