Designing and manufacturing biomimetic concrete reef substrates to protect shorelines and restore aquatic ecosystems.

关于我们

GRoW Oyster Reefs’ patented biomimetic concrete mix and substrate prototypes have been validated in coastal and estuarine waters from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico, underwater for periods of more than one year, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (Maine), U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and VIMS, the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences and the Elizabeth River Project, MIT, UMass Boston, and the University of Maryland, and on the West Coast, with Oregon State University. New projects have been initiated with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), Reti Center, New York, and the South Carolina Floodwater Commission (SCFC). A prototype reef-tangle has been installed in the Gulf of Mexico since July 2018. Schmidt Marine Technology Partners are funding increased production capacity, output, and reef building with GRoW products specifically designed to support and protect submerged aquatic vegetation, in the Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, for multi-year testing of carbon burial and nitrogen reduction potential. GRoW Oyster Reefs’ products have been installed in the UK’s first biomimetic coastal defense infrastructure, delivering remarkable results. Evelyn Tickle; CEO, Founder, Inventor — with more than 20 years of experience in the concrete fabrication industry, invented GROW Oyster Reefs' biophilic concrete mix. Educated as an Architect, with a specific interest in biomimicry, Evelyn’s concrete oyster reef restoration products have established GROW as an internationally recognized leader in the fields of coastal resilience and aquatic ecosystem restoration. She is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, was selected as an MIT Solver in 2019, and a RISE Innovation Fellow in 2020.

  • GR??W has been busy!?(So busy that I have not had time to post on social media??) And, here is an update:) GRoW has applied for our NSF SBIR Phase 2 award - a fabulous 96 page document- while steadily working on finishing our NSF SBIR Phase 1.?Both, working towards massive scaling of GRoW Reef Tile and Reef Disk production using insanely interesting technologies taking us from 250 units per week to 24,000 units produced a day, on site for large scaled projects- yippee!!!?AND, we have just finished designing and have fabricated a mobile manufacturing system to produce the Reef Tiles on site, enabling COASTAL COMMUNITIES to produce their own Reef Tiles and Reef Disks!?Many wins here for coastal protection with our nature-based solutions?while rejuvenating the endangered wild oyster reefs - going BIG while staying small!????????????(see video for 1.5 year results on the Reef Tile! ) Contact us!

ELKHORN SLOUGH, CA GRoW_Reef Tile Installation ???? Grow has been busy & I thought I would bring you up to date! Besides being in two amazing business accelerators and working on our NSF SBIR, GRoW Reef Tiles were installed on our first West Coast Project with TNC CA and Elkhorn Slough Foundation. Elkhorn Slough is “one of California’s last great coastal wetlands” and much work is happening to regenerate and protect it, including working to regenerate the oyster population. The Slough is exceptionally muddy (waist high in places) evidenced here in this amazing photograph of the intrepid scientist carrying out Reef Tiles for deployment (check out the mud shoes!) (equiv. to snow shoes;) Scientists on the project are Kerstin Wasson of UC Santa Cruz and ESF; Bryan DeAngelis, Marine Habitat Scientist for California TNC, Phoebe Racine from TNC and also behind the camera; Luce Bassetti of Jacobs, coastal engineering in Houston, TX plus more amazing crew members all working hard to preserve our natural coastlines and ecosystems @elkhornslough_org #oystereef #elkhornslough
