Hundreds of published studies have documented better health outcomes for mothers and babies and increased satisfaction with care. GCG VALUES Innovation The group care model helps to build thriving communities by transforming the way health care is delivered and experienced by participants, providers, and health systems. Group Care trainers extraordinaire, Anne Bedaux and Amy Welde Selase, collaborated with health care providers in six hospitals in Kampala, Uganda to support Group Care implementation. They discussed challenges experienced while implementing Group Care and then worked intensively on improving skills to FACILITATE (not teach) groups, a key to success. A moving certification ceremony and dinner served to close the sessions and build community and morale among health worker participants from the six hospitals. Anne and Amy then supported the launch of three groups with Eritrean refugees now living in Uganda. They assisted with recruitment and facilitation so that everyone could continue to learn together. During one of those groups, a participant from Eritrea stated, "I'm here in Kampala for 6 months, and I felt so lonely all the time, it's for the first time I'm together with all these women. I'm so happy"... After the closing they all exchanged phone numbers and said they would go for a coffee together!
