More recognition for the Group 4 + Champlin Architecture renovation of the Cincinnati Main Library, which has been featured in Library Journal's Year in Architecture 2024! This recognition highlights the playful artwork and inviting design elements that make the library a vibrant gathering space for the community. From the eye-catching exterior art to the lively interior spaces, the library is designed to inspire joy and curiosity. One of the standout features is the grand social stair, which has become a favorite spot for patrons to gather, connect, and engage with their surroundings. Seeing visitors interact with the space—whether it's enjoying the artwork, relaxing on the steps, or using the open areas for everyday activities—reminds us of the powerful role libraries play as centers of community and creativity. We’re proud to have collaborated with Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library + the Cincinnati community to make this beloved library a place where playfulness and connection come to life. Thrilled to see Group 4 Architecture's recent projects – the Chabot College Library and Learning Connection and Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library's Main Library renovation – featured in Library Journal. These designs illustrate the transformative potential of architecture to create spaces where communities can connect, engage, and thrive. The article highlights how grand social stairs in these libraries function not only as physical links but as democratic spaces, becoming "civic plazas" that welcome everyone—students, families, visitors, and more—to gather, collaborate, and access resources in an open, inclusive environment. It’s a testament to how thoughtful design can foster inclusion and vibrancy in public spaces, building social bonds and enhancing the civic fabric. ?? ?Explore how thoughtful architecture transforms libraries into thriving community hubs: https://lnkd.in/gg-C9rHX

ULC's Annual Forum is always a highlight, and this year did not disappoint! It was an honor to spend time in Philadelphia last week with some of the most creative, innovative, and dedicated libraries in North America. Daniel LaRossa Group 4 Architecture Research + Planning, Inc.
With a final toast to the great work happening in ULC member libraries across North America, yesterday the 2024 ULC Annual Leadership Forum came to an end. To keep us excited about what's ahead, ULC President and CEO Brooks Rainwater gave attendees a preview of ULC's upcoming programming, research, and vital advocacy work. This led us into our last Forum panel, "Shaping Tomorrow: Advocacy for the Future of Libraries," moderated by Hoboken Public Library Director and ULC Board member Jennie Pu. Panelists shared insights on the newly launched ULC Advocacy Task Force, strategies for securing funding for workforce development initiatives and leveraging earmarks to strengthen library resources. With the momentum from that panel, we moved into an "advocacy message" workshop hosted by ULC's public affairs partners at Cogent Strategies. While our Forum had themes of big-picture strategy and the future of libraries, it is still important to celebrate the successful projects and initiatives that are happening at libraries every single day. We closed out #ULCForum24 with a celebration of the 2024 ULC Innovations Award winners: Broward County Library, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Denver Public Library, Gwinnett County Public Library, Memphis Public Library, Miami-Dade Public Library System, The New York Public Library, Pioneer Library System, San Francisco Public Library, San Mateo County Libraries, Toronto Public Library and Virginia Beach Public Libraries. Thank you to the 240+ attendees from over 100 library systems for joining us at this year's Annual Leadership Forum in Philadelphia! The success of this program would not be possible without our event partner the Free Library of Philadelphia and our sponsors Baker & Taylor, EBSCO Information Services, Group 4 Architecture Research + Planning, Inc. and ThriftBooks.

On October 15, Chabot College held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the opening of its library and learning center and to thank the community for investing in our current and future students. This project involved the input of students and staff and recognizes that our diverse student body needs equally diverse learning spaces. So many experts were involved in helping the Chabot College community bring this dream design to life. Much appreciation to Group 4 Architecture Research + Planning, Inc., HMC Architects, Swinerton, Rudolph and Sletten, and Structures Group.
