Groundwork DFW is excited to announce our grassroots campaign with Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center! We will be working with Child Poverty Action Lab (CPAL) and DEAC to offer pro-bono legal services to tenants *at their doors* and keep them from being wrongfully evicted from their homes across South Oak Cliff, Duncanville, Lancaster, Seagoville, Cedar Crest, Downtown, and Wilmer. With just 2 days in the field, we have already seen tenants contacting DEAC for legal representation with the flyers we gave them, increasing their chances of staying in their home by 3x. We look forward to connecting more families access the legal assistance they are entitled to and helping make the system more fair for all! Note: Do you know someone in Dallas County facing eviction? ???? Good news alert!! Yesterday was a HUGE win for Groundwork DFW and the Esperanza Community. In 2023, Groundwork DFW, with the support of The Commit Partnership, conducted a community survey of the Esperanza Neighborhood. Reaching over 3000 households and surveying over 850 residents, Groundwork listened and summarized what the community wanted in regards to education and related services (outlined here: https://lnkd.in/g8rWD9Ev). In 2024, everyone was devastated to hear that due to budget cuts, Richardson ISD had to close down schools. This included Dobie PreK Center, which had emerged clearly in our data as the heart of family & early education the Esperanza community. ...But yesterday, County Commissioner Sommerman & City Councilwoman Jaynie Schultz announced the draft plan for a new Esperanza Community Center. From additional childcare seats to all sorts of wrap-around services (see the pictures for a list & draft floor plan), the plan takes literally every single community recommendation and puts it into action. Call me a nerd, but I was literally moved to (happy) tears to see how much the community data & feedback was used to shape this plan. While I am sure its not perfect and we have a lot more work ahead of us as a community, I cannot help but be encouraged. When we created Groundwork DFW, we set out to use data as a way to bring voice and resources to those who are often overlooked because of where they live, what language they speak, or how much money they make. This plans exemplifies what it looks like when the community speaks and representatives truly listen. I am so proud of the Groundwork team, and our local elected officials who are doing right by the people they serve. Here's to more days like this . ?? ??
