Strength in Community ???? We celebrated our newest mural titled "Strength in Community," made in collaboration with?GURLS TALK?and?Colossal Media?for Mental Health Awareness Month! The concept behind the mural artwork, designed by?Lina Montoya?is a reflection of the collective experiences and voices of girls from the Gurls Talk community. Together, we worked with Gurls Talk to bring these girls together for a workshop, where they reflected on what it means to have good mental health and the significance of community in their lives. The final design symbolizes the healing power of connection and is a hopeful testament to the beauty and power of shared community, where everyone finds a place to heal and thrive together. The mural was hand-painted by Colossal Media, who is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year! They were founded in Brooklyn with one mission: to resurrect the craft of hand-painted outdoor advertising. Big thank you to everyone involved in making this mural possible. Groundswell is thrilled to announce the appointment of Yvonne M Brathwaite?as Executive Director of Groundswell Community Mural Project. Yvonne is stepping into this role to lead our organization into the next chapter of growth, creativity, and community impact. ? Yvonne brings a rich background in social justice work and youth development to her new position. She comes to us from Red Hook Initiative, where she was Chief Program and Policy Officer. We are confident that her vision and leadership will bring new energy to Groundswell and advance our work to empower youth, artists, and communities to use art as a tool for social change. ?? It was such an honor to be part of the “Show Brooklyn Some Love” mural dedication and ribbon cutting - a collaborative art project between Groundswell and Brooklyn Org with Atlantic Terminal and Madison International Realty.
