Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and honor the women’s rights movement and all of the powerful women in our lives. This mural, titled “The Women of Brownsville: Telling Our Story,” explores the hidden treasures of Brownsville’s industrious women leaders and portrays three portraits of Brownsville women, surrounded by the light of inspiration. The mural uses words to state who the women may be, such as entrepreneurs, artists, protectors and fighters. Groundswell Community Mural Project is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Board and help us continue to grow and empower communities through public art. ? Led by our Executive Director, Yvonne M Brathwaite?and our Board President, Seendy Fouron, Groundswell is based in New York and brings artists, youth, and community organizations together to create powerful public art.?We now have over 600 large-scale murals across NYC. ? We create?opportunities for youth and community engagement through our arts-based after-school and summer programs for youth, fostering a deeper understanding of and education about social issues. ?
