Co-Founder & CEO @ Change Agent AI | Powering social impact and advocacy with the first generative AI platform built specifically for causes and campaigns.
Getting to share space with organizers like Jamilia Land Aaron McCall Craddolph and Haley Bash is always uplifting, but getting to share a stage with them is next level! Our #SFTechWeek event "AI for Advocacy" was everything I had hoped for from hearing how they've leveraged AI to advance their advocacy to discussing the how alignment—more on that later—shapes an LLM's worldview and outputs to sharing comparisons between Change Agent AI and ChatGPT that demonstrate the difference between responsible, thoughtfully constructed AI and the generic stuff. A few highlights: ? Jamilia shared how she's leveraged AI to put the abolition of involuntary servitude on the ballot in both California and Nevada. If you're reading the California Ballot Guide this year, the "pro" language was written with Change Agent! ??Aaron rapidly analyzed the "Fix Our Forests" bill to assess that the GOP-sponsored legislation is a trojan horse that "fixes" our wildfire problem by chopping down the forest. He was then able to generate first drafts of campaign briefs and communications with influential people on Capitol Hill. ? Haley talked about how Change Agent enabled Donor Organizer Hub to generate a communications plan even though comms isn't Haley's specialty. Being able to build out the plan, assess the time needed for the various tasks, and make key decisions has helped Haley grow their small-but-mighty organization. ? Yours truly led the "robot army exercise" to challenge the room to think more deeply about the importance of alignment—how one teaches an LLM what "good" is. The exercise is basically this: pretend AI gave you the power to build a robot army and think about what characteristics you would need to program the robot with. This helps to get at a deeper point: if you define "good" with wisdom and consideration, your AI outputs will reflect your values, speak more powerfully to your priorities, and connect more deeply with your audiences. If you don't, you'll either generate middling results or potentially do something much worse like perpetuating racist framing, misleading your community, or otherwise creating harm. Special thanks to Groundfloor for the space and SF Tech Week for the co-promotion!
