?? Exciting updates from our work in Mozambique! Groundd has partnered with several organizations in Mozambique to identify conservation enterprises using our CERS framework. The challenge? Communities near conservation areas need alternatives to charcoal production. Our solution: ? Analyzed 20 value chains ? Integrated local knowledge, government insights, remote sensing and expert input ? Selected the top three value chains using our proven four-dimensional scoring system ?? The Result: We're ensuring strong and reliable outcomes that deliver both environmental impact and community benefits. These value chains are now ready to be presented to investors. Interested in applying this process to your organization? ?? Contact us to learn more. P.S. Say hello to the CERS framework ?? It stands for Community Conservation Enterprise Rating System. This tool helps to select and assess value chains that are not just financially viable but also benefit local people and the planet. Researchers have tested it for this purpose. It considers crucial factors like benefit sharing, land rights, and gender inclusion. It also integrates remote sensing and ground truth data to find suitable areas. But there is so much more to it.? If you want to learn more, let’s connect ?? #conservation #conservationenterprises #valuechains #sustainability #CERSframework

We are proud to be part of the ongoing efforts in Mozambique to strengthen green commodity policies, with a special focus on honey ??. As part of the development team, we’ve been working with key ministries, including Agriculture and Fisheries, to co-design the Moz Mel Portal for green trade traceability. This collaborative project highlights the power of full-cycle participation and bottom-up approaches to ensure impact for farmers and communities - specially when livelihoods rely (almost entirely) in Nature-based enterprises. #GreenTrade #Mozambique #HoneyValueChain #SustainableDevelopment

Today, as part of the development team, I had the privilege to help lead a workshop in Mozambique ????, focusing on reviewing the policy framework for green commodities, particularly honey ??. This workshop is a key step toward improving institutional coordination and ensuring compliance mechanisms that work for everyone, especially the farmers on the ground. We had participation from the Forest Department (DINAF), the Ministry of the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, and several institutions from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Ministério da Agricultura e Desenvolvimento Rural - MADER) . Since January 2024, we’ve been co-developing the idea around the Moz Mel Portal ??, a traceability and registration system for green trade. This process has been a model of full-cycle participation, involving all stakeholders to create bottom-up solutions and horizontal management approaches. We're confident that this will have a lasting positive impact. Big thank you to everyone that is making this project possible Ministério da Agricultura e Desenvolvimento Rural, Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Sustentável, MozBio, Ercilio Zimba, Madyo Couto, Deodete Chachuaio, carla manjate, Ines Cuambe et al. And my amazing support team Diandra Vaal Neto Sim?es, Mireia (Mia) Villalonga, Tainan Messina, Iracelma Kiala & Matthew Jordan! #GreenTrade #Mozambique #HoneyValueChain #SustainableDevelopment

I feel inspired and motivated after another day at #climateweekNY Very inspired by Julia (Osterman) Strong, Pedro Martins Barata, Kimberly Myers, Rane Cortez panel on the Future of Carbon. After a brief Star Wars reference #newhope, these four individuals proceeded to motivate and challenge my own vision of a carbon future. I was reminded why we are all working hard in this fringe field of climate, with a VCM cap <$2bn. We need to 'bend the curve' together and we cannot get there without NBS. ???? ?? I was also so proud to see José Monteiro speaking about ReGeCom and the very insightful concept of 'Community Information System' to compliment GIS. Linet Misiko is asking for $16M to keep hundreds of community conservancies alive in Kenya in perpetuity. A small ask for that outweighed impact on the ground. Finally, I shared another day of #tooexcited brainstorming sessions with Marisa C. Rodrigues about all the impact we can have with GROUNDD ___ and community conservation enterprises (Nature-based enterprises?). I have a vision for RAMO Earth to be the tech / carbon part of this emerging force for good in a world <+2oC and I truly believe we can do it. My work in #mozambique showed me that we can do the impossible despite wars, literal plagues and cyclones. #letsgo #climate

?? Excited to share Groundd's participation in the recent Miombo Strategy Workshop organized by The Nature Conservancy in Menongue, Angola. The workshop brought together over 50 participants, including representatives from GHABIC, IDF, IDA, Ministry of Planning, ACADIR ANGOLA, Development Workshop Angola, ADPP Angola, and traditional leaders from Cuando Cubango. ? A few key highlights from our participation: - Emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between local NGOs and government institutions to ensure communities have the support they need to organize effectively and gain access to legal processes, such as obtaining Community Forest Concessions and other types of land tenure for sustainable?NRM. - Highlighted the importance of enhancing the capacity of local communities to manage and protect their natural resources, ensuring that conservation efforts are both inclusive and sustainable. -?Discussed strategies to empower communities with the necessary legal knowledge and resources to advocate for their rights and secure land tenure through Community Forest Concessions. - Focused on the role of traditional leaders and community-based organizations in driving conservation efforts and how their involvement is crucial for the success of sustainable development initiatives in the Miombo woodlands. - Explored ways to integrate sustainable livelihood options into conservation projects, ensuring that environmental protection efforts also contribute to the economic well-being of local communities. - Learned Climate Finance mechanisms that could?unlock funds to support the work towards sustainable land use. We look forward to building on these connections and advancing our shared goals for sustainable community development in Angola. Special thanks to Mr. Harrison Kojwang, TNC’s lead consultant, for his invaluable insights into Community Forest Concessions. Big thanks to the amazing team that pulled this event together: Harrison Ochieng Kojwang, Sekgowa Motsumi, Suzana Bandeira, Iracelma Kiala, Felix Muyoba, Matthew Jordan et al. #Groundd #MiomboStrategy #Sustainability #CommunityDevelopment #Angola #TNC #Conservation #Collaboration

Such an exciting day at #ClimateWeekNYC! It felt great to be surrounded by talented and seasoned conservation practitioners. A special thanks to WWF for organizing the insightful event 'How a Multilayered Approach to Forest Conservation Benefits People, Nature, and Climate,' featuring the Nature-Based Solutions Origination Platform (https://lnkd.in/gbCPbzp8.) Key takeaways highlighted the importance of blending four key dimensions when evaluating NbS projects, as each project has its own unique variables: ?? Enabling Context - Local policies, land and resource rights, community participation, gender inclusion, and institutional strength. ?? Business Models - Financial, market, and operational viability, along with benefit sharing. ?? Social and Cultural Alignment Traditional ecological knowledge. ?? Ecosystem Services and Monitoring + Frameworks for tracking environmental impact. Feeling inspired by the discussions and can't wait for another day like this tomorrow!
