Nice work!
Tuesday, March 4th four schools, general contractors, and trade partners ‘hammered down’ to crank out a 6x6 playhouse/shed in just under seven hours during ABC of the Carolinas Build-A-SHED competition. ?After being mentored the last two months by the contractor coaches, six high school students from each team put their knowledge and skills to the test! ? Judging was based?on the criteria of structural completeness, safety, and technical elements. It was a tough competition with all teams having high scores in all areas but at the end of the day two teams were recognized for the top best scores. ? 2nd place- Lucy Beckham High School coached by Choate Construction Company & Tidewater 1st?place- James Island Charter High School coached by Miller Valentine and KELLER ? The winning team received a hammer trophy for their school and tool kits from Milwaukee Tools. All participating students received Milwaukee tool belts. ? The remaining participating schools, contractors, and trade partners: Baptist Hill High School – Frampton Construction and Light Gauge East Cooper Center for Advanced Studies – EDIFICE Construction and CarolinaPower ? In addition, Baker Roofing Company finished all four roofs.? ? The goal of this event is to promote a pipeline of workforce development and industry awareness to high school students. These high school juniors and seniors get hands-on training and an introduction to career opportunities within the construction industry from top notch construction professionals, some representing nationally recognized companies. ? Additional Sponsors who helped make this event possible and special thanks to: ? 84 Lumber provided all the lumber and building supplies to build all four sheds Graycor ? Republic Services United Site Services Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. United Rentals Thanks to Frampton Construction for hosting this event in their parking lot! Thanks to Samet Corporation for organizing the judging. #ABCMeritshopproud #buildashedcompetition
