It was a gnarly weekend -- in the best way possible. On March 29-30, the inaugural Seattle AI Film Festival screened 84 AI Films from 22 countries to an enthusiastic audience who came curious, and hopefully left committed to making and *supporting* human storytelling amplified by AI. https://lnkd.in/eP6jUXUs SAIFF's curation of emotional, substantial and accessible stories drawn from five continents (many with a 2025 copyright date) helped prove we have the power to correct our blurry visions of a preferred creative future amplified by AI. Day 2 put the future literally in front of the audience via a special showing of student work with creative AI tools courtesy of Seattle's Immersive Storytelling Lab. In parallel, four world class speakers drawn from creative, technical, marketing and strategic roles, delighted in seamless transitions from cinema to salon, where they could present in front of a lush LED wall, interact with a curious intelligent audience, then grab popcorn/coffee and settle in for a few flicks. Out in our networking lobby was a 2nd LED wall showing cover art and video shout outs from SAIFF winners and advisors, all framed by the logos of multiple supporters and sponsors. Enabling it all was a behind-the-scenes team of stone cold pros spanning design, AV, event production, photo/videography, catering and much more. Give us a clear month to process and render a rich and crispy narrative from moments captured over the weekend. We will upload films to the SAIFF website well before then. In the meantime, here's a 3min something from the vault that should clue you why we're doing this. Mark Twain said, "You can't trust your judgment if your imagination is out of focus". As humans and as human creators, we can imagine a lot better and a faster than AI now and for the foreseeable future. And yes, technology can fake us out through mimicry which is a serious problem needing a creative solution we do not yet have. But the only surefire way we will enslave ourselves to robot overlords is to give up on our innate creative capacity I believe. So learn about AI. Learn these tools and be open to the idea that technology can generate delightful and useful things with minimal human intervention. But keep your freak flag close at hand. Fly it loud. Fly it proud.
