GRIP Outreach For Youth

Our first GRIP the Gallery event was full of talented artists, excellent performers, and a whole lot of community! We are thankful to the ~250 individuals that spent their Saturday night celebrating art & Chicago’s youth with us! Special thanks to Chicago West Bible Church for sharing your space with us for the event!

SLAM hosted a Future Steps Dignity of Work Panel where students learned how their God-given purpose can be reflected in the work that they do. Panelists shared their stories about how they have used their work to cultivate the world around them. Future Steps works to connect students to a wide variety of organizations in the city that open doors for them to take part in meaningful work - even while in high school. All of this is to prepare students for an impactful life after high school! Thank you to our wonderful panelists! To some this may look like chaos but to us this is the beautiful sight of caring, Christian adults and high school students enjoying themselves in safe, fun environment that doesn’t include a screen. You don’t have to be an athlete to engage with high school students in Chicago; you just need to show up. These young people want you to show up and show interest in them. They want to talk and share their goals and dreams and ask hard questions. The fun and games just gives us an avenue to bring adults and students together in the right environment. On Saturday, Future Steps took a college visit to Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago where 14 of our students got a peak into what life could look like after high school! We are grateful for mentors who came alongside to empower and help their students explore exciting opportunities for their future!
