Dr Sarah Gardiner, Director of the Griffith Institute for Tourism and Daniel Gschwind, Professor of Practice for the Institute were interviewed by 7 News Brisbane. They discussed the entertainment opportunity for Brisbane in light of the 2032 Olympics. Sarah shared her thoughts on how the 2032 Olympics and Para-Olympics will have an Indigenous flavour, with Daniel commenting on how culture is the glue bringing people together. They invited the tourism industry to consider the types of icons, imaging, and messaging Brisbane will send to the world to leave a strong entertainment and cultural legacy.

Distinguished Professor James Higham attended the TIA Summit in Auckland, with collaborators from Otago and Auckland universities. They co-hosted a booth showcasing the innovative tourism experience technologies developed over the first year of the MBIE Endeavour research programme. The reception was very positive, with strong business and industry interest in the technologies on display. Professor Higham also attended the TIA Industry Awards where he celebrated alongside some inspiring winners. Xin Jin, (Cathy) was an invited panellist, attended the 2024 UN Tourism/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook?in Guilin, China, from 18-20 Oct 2024. The conference was jointly organised by UN Tourism, Pacific Asia Travel Association, Guilin Municipal Government, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Cathy Jin presented on the topic ‘Generative AI in Education and Research: Applications and Implications’ and engaged in the panel discussion themed Education and Cultural Exchange in the Digital Age of Tourism. The conference attracted more than 200 industry participants from Asia Pacific countries, with keynote speakers and panellists from UN Tourism, National Tourism Organisations of Asia Pacific countries, established professional associations, leading industry organisations, and top consultancies and institutions. Tourism recovery post-COVID, opportunities and challenges for tourism stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the impact of the digital age on industry, education and cooperation were widely discussed at the conference. GIFT team, Dr Truc H. Le, PhD FHEA, Dr Sara Quach, Prof Sarah Gardiner, and Prof Susanne Becken have recently completed a joint data project funded by Austrade titled "Austrade data project with Vietnam National Authority of Tourism". The project aims to strengthen the tourism data infrastructure in Australia and Vietnam, enabling more accurate and timely insights into visitor trends and behaviours. Enhanced data capabilities will support the development of targeted marketing strategies and policy decisions, ensuring sustainable tourism growth.
