Data centers already use 1-2% of the world’s electricity, and with AI expansion, this number is set to soar. The U.S. power grid, much of which was built in the 1960s and ‘70s, isn’t equipped to handle this surge without massive investment—potentially over $7 trillion. So, what’s the solution? Distributed energy innovation. ?? Onsite renewable generation (solar, wind, battery storage) ?? Microgrids for localized, resilient energy ?? A broader push for distributed energy to support the AI revolution AI is here to stay, but its energy consumption can’t be ignored. The question is: Will we innovate fast enough to keep up?
