We are still riding high from this year's Rally in the Valley, where thousands of advocates from over 20+ sister agencies united to convey a strong message to Albany: nonprofit providers are essential service providers that require sustainable funding. Our needs include: Fair resources - to guarantee that funding accurately represents the true costs of delivering high-quality services and support for individuals with special needs. Policies that empower our communities, which should strengthen our agencies, including: ?A 7.8% increase in Medicaid rates ?Establishment of a Worker Wage Commission ?Investment in Capital Funding Help us, by getting involved and raising your voice for a cause that matters - www.greystoneprograms.org #greystoneprograms Jawonio #rallyinthevalley

February is Low Vision Awareness Month, and as we end this month we're excited to spotlight Sheldon Lewis from the Nonprofit Partnerships team. Sheldon plays a pivotal role in fostering relationships with hundreds of disability-focused organizations, advancing accessiBe's mission to make the internet accessible and inclusive for everyone. ?? As someone living with #Choroideremia, a progressive eye condition, Sheldon brings invaluable insights to conversations around #VisionLoss and #InclusiveDesign. This month, he shared his perspective on a White Cane Week panel with Fondation Habilitas Foundation and spoke to graduate students at McGill University about the impact of designing for inclusion. ?? Sheldon reminds us that accessibility isn’t just a checkbox, it’s the foundation for true #Innovation. Read his insights on our blog to learn how we can all contribute to #DigitalInclusion.?? https://lnkd.in/d4_hCzaW #DigitalInclusion #Accessibility #DesignThinking #DisabilityAdvocacy #LowVision #NonprofitLeadership #AccessForAll Image Description: Low vision awareness month, Sheldon Lewis Nonprofit Partnerships. Medicaid funding supports individuals with I/DD in achieving independence, improving their quality of life, and reducing reliance on institutional care. Temporary federal investments into Medicaid HCBS authorized through the American Rescue Plan Act were utilized by every state and the District of Columbia to invest in strengthening their workforce. Data from ANCOR’s research demonstrates that, during this time period, fewer providers indicated they were closing programs or services. In 2022, 63% of survey respondents reported closing programs or services but that figure dropped to 44% in 2023 and 39% in 2024. Learn more at ancor.org/medicaid. #SaveMedicaid

?? Don't scroll past this important message ?? Medicaid operates as a partnership between states and the federal government to fund crucial health care services. When federal Medicaid funding is reduced, states must find new funding to balance the shortfall in state budgets. If new funding cannot be found, community-based services for people with I/DD are often reduced, leading to longer waitlists for HCBS and higher rates of unnecessary institutionalization. To keep the promise of community living for people with I/DD a reality, we must invest in—not divest from—the Medicaid program.
