The Greylock Elm Street branch partnered with Williams Elementary for the second year to assist them in sorting, rolling, and counting bags (and water jugs) filled with coin donations from the students for their Penny Wars. The funds raised go to the William’s Sunshine Club. The Sunshine Club is used to support the school so the students can experience things such as their annual Thanksgiving feast of a school wide pizza party and prizes for the monthly “Buzz” recipients (students identified as being the leaders of respect, integrity, and kindness). Some of these funds from this Penny War were used to purchase a school bumblebee mascot costume, as they have never previously had one! We were invited to present the results at the school during their Veteran’s Day celebration. We put together a poster board for the students comparing the results from 2023 to 2024. We also engaged the kids in education on how important it is to wash hands after touching money (as shown in the pictures) and where it is safe to keep money. We presented on all the different foreign coin we found and what countries they came from as well as the 1879 Indian Head Cent that was found. Congrats to the 1st Grade for winning the 2024 Penny War! ??
