Helping Black Women Exit Toxic Jobs For An Abundant & Fulfilling Life/Licensed Clinical Psychologist

As Black Women, we have been the backbone of workplaces, families, and even presidential elections—but at what cost? After giving so much of ourselves in the last election, many of us are left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and simply done. We have worked hard, we have shown up, and now, it is time to ask: What about us? In this powerful conversation, we will discuss the Black Women’s Employee Lifecycle, uncovering how societal expectations and toxic jobs have drained us. Together, we will reflect on the feelings of burnout and disillusionment that have led so many of us to say, "No more." It is time to pivot toward prioritizing ourselves—our physical and mental health as well as our joy and our peace. Watch this video to learn how to prioritize ourselves over toxic jobs and societal expectations. Panelists: Marissiko M. Wheaton-Greer, Ph.D. & Apryl Thatch

Thank you so much for the invitation to speak about the #BlackWomanEmployeeCycle. Such an important conversation all the time, but particularly in this current political climate. cc: Jenn Wells, EdD Marissiko Wheaton-Greer, Ph.D.

We had such a great time facilitating this session on navigating difficult conversations at Pitzer College earlier this week. Given our current political climate, we can all use a refresher and a little practice on how to engage in constructive dialogue. The student and staff participants were fantastic as they challenged themselves to listen more intentionally and offer feedback in ways that created better understanding. Many thanks for the invitation! We look forward to returning next month for a part 2!

In the spirit of reflecting on our wedding journey last month as we celebrated our anniversary, we took a moment to join Liane Hypolite & Kirk Rogers, Jr., PhD in writing more about this shared experience as a collective to offer thoughts on the importance of #diversity, #equity and #inclusion in the #weddingindustry. We hope you’ll take a moment to read and tap in with your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/g-GdX29g cc: Vince Greer ; Greer Consulting cc: Bride Magazine Zola WeddingWire

Happy Self-Care Day! Self-care isn’t just a trend—it’s a legacy. From the Black Liberation Movement to the Women’s Liberation Movement, self-care has been a powerful act of resistance. It’s about reclaiming time, space, and energy in a world that often demands more than we can give. This practice has deep roots in our history, reminding us that caring for ourselves is crucial for our collective well-being and strength. Self-Care day is on 7/24 because it represents the idea that we can practice self-care 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. We must learn to prioritize our well-being in instrumental ways, no matter how big or small. This can look like mindfulness practices, self-defense training, exercise, spending time in or near a body of water, and/or a nutritious diet in the spirit of the Black Panther Party’s Breakfast Free Program. This week I facilitated a short workshop on the concept of self-care for a group of colleagues who are on the front lines. They work tirelessly to provide programs and support to some of our most vulnerable. Compassion fatigue is a reality that we face when we do this kind of work. Self-Care can help combat our fatigue and burnout. Let’s be the best version of ourselves for eachother by taking care of ourselves first???? #SelfCareDay #SelfCareMonth #SelfCare #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion #Compassion cc: National Community Renaissance

Today is our second wedding anniversary! Happy anniversary Vince??We have so much to be grateful for, especially the growth of Greer Consulting. #Storytime: we were originally planning to get married on #Juneteenth which was a Sunday in 2022. We wanted our wedding to be a beautiful reflection of our cultures, our values, our shared beliefs and community. We thought, wow, getting married on Juneteenth would be such an incredible tribute to our history and culture. For anyone who has planned a wedding, you know anything involving weddings is EXPENSIVE. When we selected the date, the Marvimon Productions team informed us that the cost would be higher than the standard rate since Juneteenth is a holiday. We sort of laughed and said, “well since we’re an African American couple, can we actually get a discount or even the standard price at bare minimum!?” Believe it or not, they said no. And so… our anniversary is on July 1st. We constantly reflect on the contradictions of this moment with our #wedding #venue whenever we’re celebrating our anniversary. Particularly as #DEI practitioners — this experience was so indicative of the education and work that continues to be needed as industries capitalize on the idea of celebrating diversity, while ignoring the very material conditions of why it’s needed. Why celebrate the holiday if there’s no commitment to honor what it truly represents? Nonetheless, we had a beautiful wedding. But that was quite the disappointment, especially since we were so in love with the venue and already had submitted our deposit. Over the last couple of years, we’ve heard so many horror stories from other couples about the lack of #cultural competence, #awareness and respect for couples from marginalized identities in the #weddingindustry. What are your thoughts? https://marvimon.com/

Many thanks to the Black #EmployeeResourceNetwork at Neurocrine Biosciences for inviting us this week! We had a fantastic time facilitating a workshop on #CodeSwitching in the #workplace. We took time to unpack traditional notions of professionalism to better understand why code-switching is a common practice among #Black and other historically marginalized identities. About 120 participants joined us on #zoom and there was so much engagement! The time went by fast. We look forward to joining them again soon for another great session???? Thank you to the coordinators, Jaymee Payne & Carol Guerrero. #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #ERG #AffinityGroups #employeeengagement #Workshop

Had the opportunity to recognize #Juneteenth last week during a company townhall gathering. Earlier in the week, I had already hosted a film screening to create space for silent learning and reflection. I intentionally chose the language of “honoring” the Juneteenth holiday rather than “celebrating” because I don’t believe we can collectively celebrate something we don’t all fully understand YET. I appreciated the opportunity to guide reflection among my colleagues to continue asking ourselves, particularly in the work that we do with some of our most vulnerable populations: Who has still not received the full benefits of freedom? And what is our responsibility in helping them to get there? #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion
