What are sustainable fuels? ------------------------------------------ Doug Whitehead the COO of Clean Fuels Alliance America shared a post last week, stating, "Clean Fuels are a boon for the economy! They add value to agriculture, provide cleaner air, offer premium performance, create jobs, and much more. If you're a diesel fuel user, make sure to try biodiesel or renewable diesel." As I think through sustainable fuels, I think about fuels that are produced from non-petroleum feedstocks, and are an alternative fuel that reduces emissions from transportation, processing, or heating. They are sustainable in that they are renewable and have lower carbon intensities than the current fuel options that we have today. They are also sustainable in that they provide an substitute for petroleum fuels and can replace them entirely with time. There is a monumental task in front of us with world oil consumption of 97.3 million barrels per day in 2022 (over 35 billion barrels), while natural gas consumption worldwide amounted to roughly 3.94 trillion cubic meters in 2022. I liken this to eating an elephant. The only way to do it, is one bite at a time. Today, these renewable fuels are not available in sufficient quantities to replace fossil petroleum products entirely, but each bite gets us closer to the day when they can. Projects and ideas are now being advanced that will allow these sustainable fuels to become meaningful in our energy mix. Greenwood Renewable Ventures (GRV) is excited to be advancing bioenergy projects in North Dakota. Phase 1 buildout of GRV’s proposed facility will process 900,000 tons of grown-for-purpose sugar beets annually?to generate over 21 MMGY of very low-carbon fuel ethanol (negative CI when including CO2 sequestration) and 1,000,000 MMBtu of cellulosic RNG (1 Bcf). In this Phase, GRV will also capture and sequester 105,000 tons of CO2 annually. The very low CI fuel ethanol can be further processed to SAF and renewable diesel utilizing alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology. Phase 2 of this project will result in an increase of low-carbon fuel ethanol to 54-65 MMGY and 2.25-2.75 MMMBtu of cellulosic RNG (2.25-2.75 Bcf) annually. #RNG #renewablenaturalgas #sustainability #emissionreduction #sustainableaviation #sustainableaviationfuel #renewableenergy #renewablesindustry #renewables #cleanenergy #cleanenergytransition #cleanenergyfuture #netzero #netzerocarbon #climatechange hashtag #innovation #leadership #sustainable #sustainabledevelopment #sustainablefuture #saf #agriculture #agtechnology #agtech #bioenergy #northdakota #montana
