3 Simple Steps to Begin Your Mindfulness Journey! Finding peace doesn't have to be complicated. Try these gentle steps: 1?? Find your space: Choose a quiet spot and settle in. Your favorite chair, a sunny corner, anywhere you can relax without interruption. 2?? Connect with your breath: Close your eyes and simply notice your natural breathing pattern. No need to change it - just observe the gentle rise and fall. 3?? Mind wandering? That's perfectly normal! When thoughts drift (and they will), kindly guide your attention back to your breath. Start with just a few minutes. ?? Remember: Meditation isn't about having zero thoughts - it's about noticing when your mind wanders and coming back, again and again. Each return is like a bicep curl for your brain! Try it now: Take 3 mindful breaths. That's all it takes to begin. #greenwoodcounselingcenter #mindfulnessmatters #therapytools

The therapeutic relationship is at the core of all healing. At Greenwood Counseling Center, we often use EMDR Therapy, among other strategies, for fostering healing—however, empathy, and a trusting therapeutic relationship must always be the foundation for it. This requires a relationship in which the client feels seen, soothed, safe and secure. We are relational beings and as therapists, the way we listen matters; and, the way we listen is the bedrock for all other approaches and tools that we use to catalyze change.

Empathy plays a vital role in fostering connection and understanding in various context, personal relationships, workplaces, and therapeutic environments. It helps individuals navigate social dynamics, resolve conflicts, and build trust. By practicing empathy, we can create a supportive atmosphere that encourages open communication and emotional healing, ultimately leading to stronger connections. Brené Brown, Empathy is simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of 'You're not alone. ??( I love this). Just feeling that your not alone has immense healing potential. ?????? She emphasizes that empathy involves being present with someone in their pain, providing a sense of validation and comfort. ( inspiring) ???? Carl Rogers was an influential American psychologist and one of the founding figures of humanistic psychology. He is best known for his person-centered approach to therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the client's perspective. Rogers believed that for individuals to achieve personal growth and fulfillment, they must experience an environment characterized by genuineness, acceptance, and empathy. He says.. We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Carl Rogers' book is On Becoming a Person provides Therapist's View of Psychotherapy It’s an inspirational read. I read it many moons ( decades) ago when I started my training as a therapist. Providing valuable perspectives on the human experience, learning that vulnerability and openness are essential components of growth. ?? I think this is so true in so many relationships causing a disconnect between us leaving individuals retreating inwardly and suffering In silence. I think listening means to sit with a person, holding a real attentive curious compassion, readily anticipating anything they might want to share. To listen not just with your ears, but with your eyes, heart, mind and intuition. Reluctance around emotional engagement could be due to:- ??Fear of emotional engaging with someone else's problems due to it being taxing. Some individuals may prefer to offer quick fixes as a way to avoid the emotional complexities involved in more profound conversations. ??Lack of Skills- They may resort to quick fixes because they are unsure how to address the situation more thoroughly. ??Cultural Norms-In certain cultures or social circles, there may be an emphasis on quick solutions and efficiency. This can encourage people to prioritize immediate fixes over deeper exploration of issues. ? “Are you comfortable allowing others to sit with their problems without immediately trying to solve them?” ?”How do you feel when you can't provide a quick solution?” #unconditionalpositiveregard #empathicpresence #attentiveness #carlrogers #brenebrown #vulnerability #emotionalengagement #listeningskills #counselling
