Strengthening Community for Individuals with Disabilities
关于我们
Greenville CAN was started in 2013 as a network of self-advocates, service providers, families and community stakeholders working collaboratively to strengthen Greenville, SC and make it a better place to live and work for individuals with disabilities. Today, Greenville CAN is the signature initiative of the Barbara Stone Foundation. We continue to address community needs by acting as a convener, leveraging available resources, and advocating for system and policy change. We believe the best way to increase services, programs, access, opportunities, and resources in our community for individuals with special needs and disabilities is through collaboration and partnership.

Breaking ground. Breaking barriers. Brooks Foster and her dad Paul drove a mini excavator during the ceremonial groundbreaking #GreenvilleSC's first fully inclusive playground. Brooks' Playground, located inside Cleveland Park on Lakehurst Drive, will include play elements designed for children of all abilities ages six months to 13+ years. The Foster family made a generous donation, and worked with the City of Greenville Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department to create a place of belonging. Brooks' siblings, friends from The Meyer Center for Special Children, advocates, supporters and City leaders joined the celebration. In addition to a playground, the project will include enhanced handicapped parking, pathways for wheelchairs and additional restrooms.

On May 30, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy published a Request for Information in the Federal Register seeking public input on how government policies and services can better serve people with disabilities. Comments are due by July 15 and will help inform the development of the Federal Evidence Agenda on Disability Equity by the Disability Data Interagency Working Group (DDIWG). This was established by the Executive Order on Advancing Racial Equity and Support of Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government (EO 13985). This DOJ final rule brings long overdue clarity on legal obligations, ensuring equal access for all and leaving no one behind." -NCD Chair Claudia Gordon on U.S. Department of Justice's web and mobile app access rule.
