Did you know that Aaron Tippin grew up in Greenville and learned to fly at GMU? His love of aviation is generational. His dad once owned the FBO here. The Tippin family is part of our history and we interviewed him as part of 100 year anniversary documentaries to be released soon. Love is in the Air....literally. When you are doing something you love and it ends in finding true love, that is a wonderful Valentine's Day story. This is the whirlwind love story of Ryan and Alissa that started with a flight lesson at Stratos Aviation Flight School at GMU and ended in marriage at Triple Tree Aerodrome. No words can bridge the gap between the reality and pain felt by someone that loses a friend or family member. Each life touches many and that loss hurts everyone. Please say a prayer for the families and friends who lost a loved one and know that you are not going through this alone. Together we mourn with the families and friends for the lives lost in the DC plane crash. The aviation community is small. There are some of our GMU family that flew with or knew people that died in that crash.

Clear communication about roles—who does what and who knows what—can make all the difference. Identifying Gaps: Training highlights areas where our knowledge can improve and where emergency responders might need additional insights about our operations. Addressing these gaps ahead of time strengthens our collective response. Familiarity with the Airport Environment: Unlike typical road emergencies, airports present unique challenges—fuel farms, hangar storage, limited water access, and more. Familiarity with these aspects enhances on-site decision-making. Minimizing Environmental Impacts: A well-coordinated response can significantly reduce environmental risks, such as fuel runoff. Regular training ensures everyone understands how to control and limit environmental impacts effectively. Aircraft Familiarization: Our diverse aircraft fleet presents varying challenges, from fuel capacities to unique features like the Cirrus' rocket-propelled parachute system. First responders need hands-on experience to navigate these aircraft and understand cabin layouts, especially while wearing full gear. Additionally, this training fosters stronger relationships and trust between our staff and emergency teams, creating a safer environment for everyone on the field. The amount of support from our community and neighboring states to donate, collect, and distribute needed disaster relief, emergency, and medical supplies for people devastated by Hurricane Helene has truly been amazing. Our pilot community has reportedly delivered 700k pounds of supplies by fixed wing and helicopter to areas that were not easily accessible by vehicles. The helicopters volunteers are reaching areas that are completely cut off. All this started with a simple social media post asking for others to help by our newest tenant, Happy Helicopter Tours.
