    The $20 Billion Question: Is Green Energy Built on a House of Cards? For years, Green River Mountain has watched the explosion of government-backed green energy investments with skepticism. Grand promises, taxpayer-funded climate initiatives, and markets built on subsidies rather than sound economics. Now, the cracks are showing. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s abrupt cancellation of $20 billion in green energy contracts raises questions about the sector’s long-term viability. In Europe, a minor technical error on June 26 caused Germany’s electricity prices to skyrocket from €100 to €2,000 per megawatt-hour—a stark reminder that the “green transition” often relies on fragile infrastructure and external dependencies. The ACE rule that replaced the Clean Power Plan achieved only a 0.7% emissions reduction, yet some states actually saw higher emissions due to inefficiencies. The problem? Energy policy has been driven by politics, not performance. The Clean Power Plan (#CPP) promoted generation shifting—moving power production to lower-emission sources—because it actually worked. The ACE rule, in contrast, abandoned this effective approach in favor of plant-specific efficiency tweaks that barely moved the needle. Worse, the EPA’s legal strategy in defending ACE was so weak that courts could strike it down entirely, leaving the sector in limbo. So, what does this mean for investors?
