Building homes, changing lives in Northwest Vermont.
关于我们
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity began in 1984 when a group of concerned citizens gathered to take action on the lack of affordable housing in the region. Since then, the organization has continued to build homes, community, and hope in a service area that includes Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille counties. Families and individuals in need of a hand-up partner with Green Mountain Habitat to build a safe, energy-efficient, and affordable place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit vermonthabitat.org.

Everyone deserves a fair chance at homeownership—no matter their race, religion, or background. For decades, discriminatory practices like redlining and racial covenants kept marginalized communities from owning homes. In 1968, the Fair Housing Act was passed to ban housing discrimination and ensure equal opportunities in buying, renting, and financing homes. While this law was a major step forward, housing inequities still exist today. At Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity, we’re working to make homeownership more accessible for all—because housing is a human right. ?? Did you know that for decades, racial covenants were used to keep communities of color from buying homes in certain neighborhoods? These legal clauses, written into property deeds, explicitly barred Black, Indigenous, Asian, and Latino families from homeownership—deepening segregation and the racial wealth gap. ?? Even though they were banned in 1968, their impact is still felt today. Many of these neighborhoods remain predominantly white and affluent, while historically excluded areas face underinvestment and fewer resources. At Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity, we’re working to change that by expanding access to affordable housing and creating homeownership opportunities for all. ??
