Check out a glimpse into our project at The Shops at Stone Bridge in Chesire, CT!
Exciting construction progress this month at The Shops at Stone Bridge in Cheshire, CT. Thanks to a great team lead by Frankie Campione at CREATE Architecture Planning & Design, PLLC, this ground-up retail development for Regency Centers will provide a much-needed destination for the community of Cheshire. The Shops at Stone Bridge is part of a major mixed-use development called Stone Bridge Crossing, which includes apartments, townhomes, and a hotel. The 152,000-SF retail center will be anchored by a Whole Foods Market with multi-tenant buildings flanking each side. Four additional standalone buildings in the parking lot will house one to two tenants each. GPI provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural engineering design for six of the buildings at the site. GPI is coordinating closely with CREATE to bring the architect’s and owner’s vision to life, while meeting an expediated timeline. GPI has worked with CREATE from project inception and continues to provide support during construction for the client, including additional tenant fit-out work as the individual units are leased out. Structurally, the buildings consist of a mix of precast concrete panels and structural steel framing, and MEP worked closely with the client and prospective tenants to meet unique requirements for each space. We look forward to seeing the completion of the buildings in 2025! #StructuralEngineering #MEPEngineering #NewConstruction

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Region 10 Long Island area spans 12 towns, 2 cities, 95 villages, and over 2.8 million people. In efforts to improve mobility and safety concerns, NYSDOT operates one of the world's premier traffic information systems, Information for Motorists (INFORM). INFORM utilizes thousands of road-embedded sensors, 435 cameras, radar traffic monitoring devices for real-time travel information for highway signs, and more. To keep the essential system running smoothly, GPI supplied the engineering resources and expertise to update ITS elements, including impact assessment, final design of system elements and support equipment, traffic signal design, installation, and beyond. These updates help improve safety and reduce congestion for the 2.8 million individuals that travel the Region 10 Long Island area. November marks Historic Bridge Awareness Month! Join us this month as we celebrate the opportunities we've had to work on historic bridges. The Big Bayou Sara Bridge, completed in 1949, is a historic, steel pony truss bridge that carries two lanes of Louisiana Highway (LA) 66 across the Big Bayou Sara in West Feliciana Parish, LA. GPI provided Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI), contract administration, project engineering, and coatings inspection services for the rehabilitation of the bridge. The efforts included rehabilitation of the steel pony truss spans, replacement of the concrete deck, cleaning and painting of the structure, and construction of a diversion bridge. The project required preservation of the historical appearance, utilizing wooden formwork for the concrete deck. We also provided day-to-day inspection, quality assurance, traffic control review, and construction management duties. The role of college libraries has evolved from repositories for books to centers for creativity and collaboration. Built in 1978, the two-story, 14,000 sq ft Begley Library underwent upgrades to modernize the Learning Commons for the 4,000 students attending SUNY Schenectady County Community College. GPI’s Buildings Group designed the gut renovation of the Library, including a major structural reconfiguration enabled by creating a two-story opening between the first and second floors to illuminate the space. We also provided MEP and fire safety solutions, including a new roof-mounted dedicated outside air system (DOAS), with dual energy recovery wheels to provide ventilation through new and existing ductwork. Our design is equipped to handle 10,000 cubic feet per minute and required new steel framing and features to quietly operate above the library and adjacent sound-sensitive theater. To maximize energy efficiency, the Library now boasts a new gas-fired hot water boiler and digital controls for all the HVAC equipment. Upgraded manual fire alarm stations, smoke/heat detection, audio/visual alarm devices, and rolling fire doors are all in compliance with New York’s Building Code.
