Our next Employee Spotlight is Kristen Drake! Kristen is a Senior Recruiter here at Greenlight, dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace while ensuring every candidate feels valued throughout the hiring process. Read on to hear about her approach to recruiting, the values that guide her, and what makes her role so rewarding! ?? Q: As we celebrate Black History Month, can you tell us about how you approach building a diverse and inclusive workforce, and why is that important to you? A: We aim to hire the best person for each role that we open, and I do not believe it's possible to do that without engaging a diverse group of candidates in the process. But this isn't done in a vacuum, there are several factors that come into consideration - prioritizing international, targeted sourcing efforts, increasing brand awareness, and championing an environment where everyone feels empowered to bring their authentic selves and ideas to work each day are just a few! Q: What is the most rewarding part of your role as a lead recruiter? A: It's difficult to pick just one, because there truly are so many rewarding moments in recruiting! But for me it would have to be having the opportunity to build a relationship/rapport with a candidate that I'm working with and calling them with the news that we're extending an offer for them to join us at Greenlight. Getting to be a part of that full circle moment that can impact someone's life in such a positive way is amazing! Q: What values guide you in your role, especially when connecting candidates to opportunities? A: Transparency and authenticity. I like to take a very human approach to recruiting - it's always my goal to foster conversations that allow both the candidates and hiring managers that I partner with to have all of the necessary information and data to make informed decisions.

Today’s Employee Spotlight: Kyle Medernach! Kyle is a Senior Copywriter here at Greenlight, who always takes special care to understand the needs of users he is speaking to. Read on to hear more about his work and what he’s excited about at Greenlight??: Q: How do you ensure your copy speaks directly to the needs and desires of families using our app? A: Empathy is key. I put myself in their shoes. Are they time-crunched parents? Tech-savvy teens? I tailor the message to their unique needs and speak their language. Q: Our app is consistently evolving. How do you stay informed about what our users want to see next, and how does that influence how you speak to them? A: I’m a feedback fanatic! I dive deep into user reviews and market research, and I even attend customer interviews to see how Greenlight impacts families in the real world. This helps me understand their pain points and desires, which directly shapes my copy. Q: What opportunities do you see in the year ahead to further evolve and refine Greenlight’s storytelling? A: I’m pumped for 2025! It feels like we’re leveling up our storytelling in a big way. Think less “marketing speak” and more “real talk.” We’re going to be sharing stories from actual Greenlight families – the wins, the challenges, the “aha!” moments. I can’t wait to see what we do together!

Here’s the best tool I’ve found to help kids learn how to earn, save and spend money. As part of my kids’ 5th birthday, they’d get a Greenlight debit card. Yes it’s a real, physical card, but way more. On the parent app I can: - see my kids’ balances - transfer money to their account - see transactions on purchases - see if they’ve completed learning games - provide parent-paid interest for saving I have an ongoing list of chores in my house. They’re voluntary. (The kids have minimum things they must do that they don’t get paid for - this is about doing more to earn money.) They know how much they’ll get paid for laundry, dishes, bathrooms, vacuuming, etc. The trick is, if I have to ask them to do it - no money. They have to notice the opportunity to earn. If nobody else is doing it, and it needs to be done, this encourages them to step up. If they hear me doing dishes, they all run up the stairs lamenting “no, mom, I was gonna do that in five minutes, please can I do them?” Nope, kid - you had your chance. Get on the ball. I’m keepin’ my money. (Can you tell that I deal with incentiving financial behavioral change for a living?? ??) Their individual cards are linked to our Amazon account, to their Apple IDs, etc so they can buy whatever they want. My kids are now 9, 10 & 12. They are the only kid who brings their own debit card to the gift shop on school field trips. They can tell you the difference between debit cards & credit cards, between earning interest and paying interest. They understand how much things cost, and could tell you how long it would take them to save up for something that costs $50. Here’s the scoop: I can’t raise #SAVERS until I first raise #EARNERS. And selfishly, I’m just not gonna pay for a house cleaning service when I have capable children who want things that cost money. Redirect those funds and those responsibilities and it’s a win win for everyone. Just keep age appropriate expectations in the forefront because constant criticism does not encourage proactive behavior. Link to check out the Greenlight app in the comments.
