We're thrilled to be part of the team working on a Park Needs Assessment with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and an amazing team of partners led by OLIN. The assessment, which kicked off yesterday, will combine robust data analysis and an incredible array of community engagements throughout the Los Angeles. That will result in a community-driven plan for the future and support for park funding in LA for decades to come. Check it out and get involved: https://lnkd.in/gxvYgPtv

To accelerate the conservation of biodiversity, we need to know what’s most important to protect. And science has a critical role in this. California is one of 36 global biodiversity hotspots, and our native plants are the foundation of our extraordinary biological diversity. It was wonderful to see partners from Plantlife International, who are leading the global effort to identify the most important places to protect for plants, at #COP16 in Cali, Colombia. Back in California, an incredible team of California Native Plant Society volunteers, staff, and partners at GreenInfo Network are building the first comprehensive map of the state’s Important Plant Areas (IPAs). The California IPA project is identifying the places that are most important to protect from the standpoint of our documented botanical resources. Building on foundational efforts led by California Native Plant Society over the past few years, we’ve developed a new methodology that is consistent with the global PlantLife International guidance, tailored to best address factors unique to California, to produce the state’s first comprehensive map of IPAs. In the months ahead, we’re looking forward to releasing our California IPA map and to contributing to the international picture of IPAs, to inform conservation efforts at the local, state, and global scales. Together, we can go further, faster. ???? #biodiversity #conservation #nativeplants #climateaction 30x30CA
