It’s our anniversary! ?? We officially became a nonprofit organization 20 years ago! We embrace our anniversary falling on Valentine’s Day to celebrate supportive love and healthy relationships. ? ? During the past 20 years, more than 4,600 adults and children have found safety and healing at our emergency shelter. Nearly 65,000 survivors have been supported through crisis intervention, court advocacy, and other support services across central Kentucky. ? ? We’ve collected some photos of courageous, joyful, and important moments over the years.? ? "Our mission holds thousands of stories of celebration, fear, loss, and possibility—most with happy endings and many still being told," shares Darlene, our executive director. ???

On Saturday, February 8, communities across Kentucky came together for Shop & Share, an annual donation drive supporting survivors of intimate partner abuse. I had the privilege of organizing this year’s event for GreenHouse17 across 21 Kroger locations in Central Kentucky, working alongside an incredible team of hundreds of volunteers to make it happen. Together, we collected well over 150,000 dollars in donated goods that will stock our shelters pantry for a full year! This effort wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of Kentucky’s First Lady Britainy Beshear, the coordination of ZeroV, the amazing GreenHouse17 staff, and the dedication of every volunteer and shopper who showed up to support survivors. It was inspiring to see so many people come together for this cause, and I’m grateful to have played a role in making it happen. Thank you to everyone who participated! It was such a wonderful day!

Update: A memo issued by the Office of Management and Budget on Wednesday January 29, made public at approximately 1:15 pm, has rescinded the freeze on federal funds. We are grateful to our community for your swift response and attention to support survivors. Your voices were heard! ___ On January 27, the White House's Office of Management and Budget issued a memo directing all federal agencies to pause federal grant, loan, and financial assistance programs effective 5 p.m. ET on January 28. Minutes before the freeze would have begun, a federal judge extended the effective date by six days. This pause would have detrimental impacts on public support services across the nation, including Kentucky's domestic violence programs, the employees who keep them operating, and the survivors they serve. As a member program of ZeroV, the coalition of Kentucky domestic violence programs, we are urging concerned Kentuckians to contact their Members of Congress today and insist they do everything in their power to prevent the federal funding pause. Call scripts and email templates you can use when contacting your Members of Congress are available here - https://lnkd.in/eM77AZJY

Abuse is all about one person choosing to gain power and control over another person, and stalking can be an incredibly effective way to accomplish this.
