Greener Partners’ mission is to strengthen community health through urban farming, equitable fresh food access, and discovery-based learning.
We believe that all people should be able to access nourishing food in the communities in which they live. We partner with schools, hospitals, and community organizations to develop underutilized land into productive urban gardens that provide fresh food for communities experiencing food insecurity. We address barriers to healthy eating through hands-on gardening, cooking, and nutrition education programs, and through no-cost fruit and vegetable distributions. Our seed-to-plate lessons are based on research that shows when garden education is combined with food education, people eat more fruits and vegetables. Additionally, studies show that fresh food access is more effective when combined with food education.
The school, hospital, and community gardens in the Philadelphia region that we support help thousands of youth and families to make deep connections to the land and one another. Greener Partners aims to equip people with skills to establish sustainable sources of healthy food in their communities through urban gardening. This approach connects youth to the land, regenerative practices, advocacy for land use, and the power of growing their own food. Our goal is to connect youth to neighborhood green spaces and empower them as agents of change in their communities.
