Creating healthier urban spaces in harmony with nature.

关于我们

At GreenBlue Urban, we're all about sustainable cities - environmentally sustainable, economically sustainable, and socially sustainable. To us, that means creating cities where people want to live, work, and visit. We work every day to help landscape architects and civil engineers accomplish this through the successful design and implementation of green and blue infrastructure. More specifically, we facilitate beneficial ecosystems, allowing trees planted in hardscape areas to reach their full potential. Our research stems back to 1992, when we first introduced ArborSystem to the market. Since then, we have helped over 500,000 trees in their battle to establish in urban areas, with the goal of drastically improving urban planting success and increasing leaf canopy in our cities, in order for our urban forests to bestow all the benefits that they offer. Urban trees are facing more extreme weather than ever before. With floods, droughts, and powerful winds becoming more frequent due to climate change, our trees need extra support to survive. But there’s a solution! Incorporating soil cell systems with SuDS into your designs will help promote deep, healthy roots, ensuring trees stay strong in harsh conditions, reduce flooding, and remain hydrated during dry spells.

Thriving Trees in a Harsh Coastal Climate? It’s not just possible, it’s proven! At BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, 154 trees have defied the odds, standing strong against salt spray, high winds, and fluctuating temperatures for 14 years and counting. The secret? Our soil cell technology, which provided the essential root support, soil volume, and stability needed for long-term success. Thanks to smart engineering and thoughtful species selection, this once-derelict space is now a resilient, green landmark. With the right trees and the right foundation, even the toughest environments can flourish! Graduate Environmental Planner AIEMA, London DPG Co-Lead and London WaterAid Rep at Stantec Master of Environmental Geography with First Class Honours from the University of York

Last week, the Stantec London Developing Professionals Group (DPG) welcomed GreenBlue Urban to give a CPD session on ‘Maximising Green Opportunities In Our Urban Environments’. The event was very well attended by DPG members and our host Howard Gray was very engaging and informative. The session assessed some of the key challenges and benefits of tree planting in urban spaces. It was a great learning opportunity to hear how tree pits can enable trees to grow in places they don’t belong and the benefits planting the correct species of tree for the urban environment can have in mitigating climate change. Since becoming Co-Lead of the London DPG in January, a key aim of ours has been to provide an opportunities for continued professional development, and through our monthly CPD sessions we hope to achieve this, with upcoming events planned focusing on a range of technical disciplines. Thank you to GreenBlue Urban for hosting a great event and to everyone that attended! #stantecDPG

What if the future of urban development looked like this? The City of London is taking a bold step towards sustainability with its newly updated Sustainability Planning Document (SPD). This ambitious move could become the gold standard for boroughs across the capital – and potentially the world. In a time when climate resilience is no longer a choice but a necessity, especially after the havoc of recent storms and flooding, this policy is shifting the focus to green infrastructure, urban greening, and flood mitigation, paving the way for a more resilient city. We're ready to bring this vision to life with nature-based solutions like SuDS, tree pits, and innovative urban greening strategies. Could this be the blueprint for London's future? Let’s make it happen. Discover more in our latest blog: https://hubs.ly/Q03cgk1h0 #SustainableCities #GreenInfrastructure #ClimateAction

What if trees were the secret to cooler cities? Spoiler: They totally are! In places like London and cities around the world, summer temperatures are rising, and it’s not just the air that’s heating up. Without trees to give us shade, roads, sidewalks, and buildings can be up to 20°C hotter than shaded spots! Here’s how tree shade works its magic: Air Temperature: Lower air temperatures by 2°C to 8°C through evapotranspiration and shading. Roads and Pavements: Shaded roads and pavements can be up to 20°C cooler than unshaded areas. Building Facades: Shaded building facades can experience temperature reductions of 5°C to 10°C. More green spaces and tree canopies = less heat, and more liveable cities for us all. #UrbanHeatIsland #TreeCanopies #CoolerCities

Urban areas are turning into heat traps, but nature has the solution! As concrete jungles expand, urban areas are heating up faster than ever, creating unbearable conditions during heatwaves. But urban forests act as natural air conditioners, providing shade, releasing moisture, and cooling down our streets. By planting more trees and expanding green spaces, we can combat the Urban Heat Island effect, improve air quality, and make cities healthier and more liveable. ?#ClimateAction #SustainableLiving #NatureBasedSolutions
