In Ortiz v. Eversource Energy, a putative class action, plaintiffs brought suit against Eversource Energy alleging that Eversource knowingly marketed natural gas and related services as clean and safe for residential consumers and the environment despite knowing this was not true. Allegedly, Eversource knowingly issued communications that were purposefully misleading and inconsistent with scientific studies. Plaintiffs further allege that had they known the truth about the health and environmental risks associated with the natural gas, they would not have purchased the gas. ?? What an incredible way to wrap up the last day of eMerge Americas 2025, the premier global technology event in Miami and the anchor of Miami Tech Month. Alan Sutin, Miami Technology, Media & Telecommunications Practice chair, and Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice senior chair, kicked off the morning with a powerful presentation titled "Deploying AI and Other Emerging Technologies: Practical Risk Management Strategies" at GT's booth. Alan shared valuable insights on minimizing the risk of legal challenges when deploying new technologies. He reminded us: "There are no right answers, that's what you have to understand. In the early days of the internet, it was the same thing." Alan emphasized the importance of determining risk tolerance as companies navigate the uncharted waters of AI and emerging tech. Mike Attisha, Ph.D., Boston Intellectual Property & Technology of counsel, delivered an enlightening session titled "Working with Uncertainty: Investing and Protecting Innovation in Quantum Technologies" at our booth. Michael dove into the state of quantum computing, explored strategies for safeguarding innovations, and discussed the investment landscape. He also issued a cautionary note about the hype surrounding quantum technologies, reminding us that while the potential is immense, broader adoption remains years away. Michael then took the stage at eMerge's AI + Quantum Arena for a compelling fireside chat, "The ChatGPT Moment: When Will Quantum’s Breakthrough Arrive?" Joined by Matthew Cimaglia from Quantum Coast Capital, Michael explored the parallels between AI’s rapid rise and the anticipated breakthrough in quantum technologies. They also explored the critical role of intellectual property (IP) strategies, the intersection of AI and quantum technologies, and how businesses can prepare now for the quantum era. Thank you to eMerge Americas for hosting such a dynamic platform to exchange ideas and inspire innovation. It’s clear that the future of tech is being shaped right here in Miami, and Greenberg Traurig will help businesses navigate this exciting landscape. #eMergeAmericas #MiamiTechMonth #AI #QuantumComputing #EmergingTech #IntellectualProperty #RiskManagement #eMergeNow
