Exciting news for Green Philly: Our podcast, Gritty and Green, has been awarded a $27,500 grant from the Independence Public Media Foundation’s Community Voices Fund! This funding will support the Green & Gritty: We Are Seeds Mini-Series, an exploration of the resilience, culture, and challenges facing Philadelphia’s community gardens. Produced by Master Gardener Meredith Nutting, this series shifts the focus to the voices of the gardeners themselves—sharing powerful stories of community building, cultural preservation, and resilience in the face of systemic barriers. We’re proud to elevate local voices and bring transformational storytelling to sustainability and equity-focused media. Stay tuned for this exciting new chapter in the Gritty and Green journey! ?? https://bit.ly/4fJ62zJ

??Turning on the tap and filling a glass with cool, clean water is something we do without a second thought. It’s easy to forget the journey our water takes to reach us. #FairmountWaterWorks, a historic water pumping station on the east bank of the Schuylkill River, is the perfect place to explore Philadelphia's water story—past and present. ??? Have you visited this fascinating education center? You can visit Fairmount Waterworks at 640 Waterworks Dr., Wednesday through Sunday 10am to 5pm.

?? DYK: ASPIRA Bilingual Cyber Charter School in Philadelphia launched a game-changing solar system—installed by our friends over at Exact Solar! ?? This solar system powers an aquaponic growing system in their newly revamped greenhouse, offering students hands-on learning in sustainable urban agriculture. ?? The project aims to increase equity in STEM education, allowing students to explore everything from growing food in a closed system to preparing and serving it in the school café! ?? Plus, they’ll sell their homegrown produce at a local farmers market, learning about sustainable entrepreneurship along the way! We can’t wait to see how this project will inspire students to connect with renewable energy, sustainable farming, and climate action. The future is looking bright!?
