Well, look at that—the Port of Portland just landed on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2025. Right up there with YouTube and the WNBA. That’s quite a big deal for a public agency. Apparently, turning an airport into a full-on love letter to the Pacific Northwest—with a locally sourced mass timber roof, all Oregon shops, 90% union-built everything, geothermal systems cutting fossil fuel use by 90%, and art that tells the story of Oregon—really does grab attention. Who knew? (We had a hunch.) Check out the full feature and see how our very own PDX is redefining what an airport can be—carpet and all: https://lnkd.in/gD5sPTgN ---------- #pdxairport #portlandoregon #pdxnext #FCMostInnovative

Nestled in the trees on Priest Lake in Idaho, this custom home naturally blends into its surroundings. The exterior yakisugi "shou sugi ban" siding from Nakamoto Forestry undergoes a centuries-old Japanese charring process, followed by double brushing to remove loose soot. The resulting textured wood surface is both beautiful and long-lasting, making it a great low-maintenance choice for this cabin in the woods. Nakamoto Forestry North America distributes throughout North America from a stocking warehouse and prefinish shop in our hometown of Portland, Oregon. Photographer: Lara Swimmer

  • Architectural Associate Joshua Gabbard is a true jack-of-all-trades, and we’re lucky to have him on our team! A talented designer and Sustainable Homes Professional, he brings a deep understanding of building science to every project. Here, he’s getting his hands dirty during a recent site visit to a custom home in Eastern Oregon, inspecting an insulated tunnel that connects the main house to the retreat—designed to protect water lines from freezing in harsh winter conditions. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes photos from this design-build project in Eastern Oregon. #SustainableDesign #BuildingScience #DesignBuild #CustomHomes #OregonArchitecture #OregonHome

“I encourage my peers in the industry—let’s go for it,” RoseVilla Senior Living CEO Glen Lewis said in a recent episode of the Transform podcast. “Let’s collectively commit to building responsibly, taking incremental steps to reduce our environmental impact, choosing renewable energy sources, and leading by example.” Opinion: Climate change will become a bigger risk factor and a variable that operators and their capital partners must weigh in charting future growth. I agree with Glen's comments urging for broader sustainability adoption in senior living. After all, it's good business and it just makes sense. (full episode linked in comments)

  • At this custom home in Eastern Oregon, we’re excited to feature a new, sustainable flooring option from Zena Forest Products—a family-run Oregon business dedicated to stewarding resilient, locally sourced hardwoods for residential and commercial spaces. We’ll be installing Zena’s Edge Grain Flooring—a stunning, mosaic-like design crafted from small hardwood pieces that would otherwise be waste byproducts from their wide-plank flooring production. With support from a Small Business Sustainability Fund award from Business Oregon, Zena launched this innovative production line—supplying more than 70,000 SF of Oregon White Oak Edge Grain Flooring for Portland’s new airport terminal. At the Little Wing Residence, we’re installing Maple Edge Grain Flooring, blending beauty, sustainability and craftsmanship into every step. #SustainableDesign #GoodWood #UpcycledMaterials #FSCcertified #oregonmade
