The Russian invasion into Ukraine has resulted in significant loss of life, a more unified NATO and the partnering of adversaries we never thought we’d see. Retired Lt. Gen. E. John Deedrick represented the US military in NATO. "Everyone's military experience is unique. That is especially true for Green Berets serving the National Guard. Many times they are states away from their unit, serve much more than one weekend a month and their 2 weeks a year, while also having full time jobs where they actively deploy, serve as first responders, or as federal agents. I pivoted my career from owning a boutique to becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor to better serve and advocate for the Special Operations community where many supports do not meet our needs. While access to mental healthcare has increased, access to culturally competent care where clinicians understand the military community, is still a barrier. It is an honor to be chosen as a Top 3 Branch Finalist for the National Guard.
