Exploring Green Bay PD history: The earliest known documentation of a department honor guard dates back to 1946. It was formally created in 1965 by Chief Elmer Madson. The honor guard’s mission is to represent the agency for events such as parades, presentation of colors at events (conferences, conventions, sporting events), graduations, and attending first responder funerals. The honor guard has attended funerals for many Wisconsin police officers and other officers from surrounding states such as Illinois and Minnesota. Today, the honor guard has 16 members. Exploring Green Bay PD history: This photo was taken in the 1940's of the department's own competitive pistol team. Since the police station totally lacked training facilities at the time, the department had to get creative for their training locations. They used to shoot in the YMCA into a metal bullet trap that was located in the attic, but this was discontinued after a bullet accidentally went through the roof. The department later shot outside at what used to be a sand pit in the 1900 block of Deckner Avenue. After housing development shut it down, officers would shoot outside in a sand pit in the 2600 block of Indian Hill Drive. Finally during the 1950's, they shot at the Armory which was located at the intersection of Oneida/W Mason St. From 1946 on, the pistol team placed in every tournament they competed in and would receive almost every award possible. #GreenBayPD #history

We are very excited to congratulate three graduates from the Fox Valley Technical College police recruit academy today! Recruit officers Brad Glisczinski, Macie Heisel, and Joseph Lannoye completed their training yesterday and will begin their field training program bright and early Monday morning when sworn-in. Since our agency sponsored three recruits, Chief Davis was invited to speak as the graduation keynote speaker. Join us is welcoming these new officers to the department. Good luck and stay safe!
