PING is a STEMtastic summer camp program that aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technologists. Current 8th-graders (rising 9th-graders) from anywhere in the U.S. who are interested in a fun and challenging camp experience are invited to apply. This camp is fully funded - NO COST to students! Submit an online application AND all required camp forms by Monday, May 19: bit.ly/PING-25 PING students will work in small teams supported by an undergraduate student mentor and an Observatory staff scientist to conduct research by observing the universe with a 40-foot diameter radio telescope. Supplemental educational activities, including bench experiences building electronic circuits and coding activities, complement the primary research theme. In addition, there is plenty of non-science fun from games to hiking, making, swimming, and more! For more information and application please visit: bit.ly/PING-25

These next few weeks offer a spectacular opportunity to see the planets marching across the night sky. Four planets are easily visible to the naked eye just after sunset and on into the nighttime as Saturn and Venus set on the western horizon and Jupiter and Mars rise high overhead. On your next clear night, bundle up, get outside, and look up! Want to get a closer look? Join us (weather permitting) for our next Star Party on Saturday, February 1st ! See our event listings for details. Image: learn more from this recent article in Sky & Telescopehttps://lnkd.in/epS9D2Rb

From the Archives: Children's holiday parties, held annually at the sites, are a long tradition at NSF NRAO. In this photo from the 1977 party in Green Bank, Santa and his reindeer, led by Rudolph, make their grand entrance. Santa coordinated with GB to turn off his sleigh's transponder while the 140 ft and 300 ft were observing. ?????? ?? Credit: US NSF/AUI/NSF NRAO/GBO (1977)
