Zion National Park, the fourth most visited National Park in the United States, is the premier attraction, but Zion is only the beginning. The cast and crew of?Breaking Par, a nationally syndicated golf-destination TV show, descended on Greater Zion for the first time recently, and the Greater Zion episode is now live (below or check your local listings). Ryan Johnson, Felix Stone, Trevor Vega, and Patrick Koenig (special to this episode) experienced six days of golf and adventure in this year-around playground. What they’ve produced in their time here is what they’re calling “the most cinematic episode we’ve ever made.” Besides looking good on TV, the golf courses and adventures wowed them, and left them wanting more. This team truly saw our vision, shared our passion for our area, and embraced it both on and off camera. As it was announced that LPGA and PGA Tours were going to be stopping in Greater Zion at the new Black Desert Golf Course, this project sprouted. It was our director Brittany McMichael who reminded us that golf was really the start of tourism in this area. We started dreaming, thinking we’d make 2024 the Year of Golf. Simultaneously, we were working on a piece for a tourism conference that we ended up calling “Groundbreakers,” telling the story of some of the generations of people that turned this land into a Land of Opportunity, tracing their roots back to the pioneers. So, one film leads to another and we dive head-first into rounding up some golf- and history-related subjects to sit down in front of the camera. And the stories flowed. The stories have resulted in a cattle round-up, deeper interviews in people’s houses, tracking down historical photos, and even recreating a wagon train (that’s something I never thought I’d have on my resume), working with each of our 14 golf courses to produce videos for each of them, coordinating with “golf models” and more. And another surprise we could have never predicted. (I won’t give it away.) We think it weaves a good tale of this industry that has become that economic driver former generations dreamed of, a past time for residents, and eye candy for the entire world. And hopefully, it’s a source of pride for the local community too. Please join us at 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 22 (Earth Day!) for a screening of the Zion National Park film, “Forever is Now,” at Dixie Tech. The name "Forever Is Now" comes from the writings of Lyman Hafen. If the history of the earth were to be written into a 1000-page book, our time here would barely take up a single letter. And yet, the significance of what we do now will be felt long into forever. This film follows 10 people who are Zion National Park’s keepers and caretakers. At a time of increasing tension between recreation and environmental impact, the film follows a path to the future through character stories that are personal, complex, and compelling. Shot in all four seasons across 14 successive months, the film captures Zion like it's never been seen before—instilling a sense of awe and ownership for public lands today, tomorrow, and forever. Meet the Utah filmmakers Sean Slobodan and Shandi Kano, as they embark on a tour, taking this film on the road across the U.S. and Canada.
