This Caucus?works to leverage the strength of the Midwest as a region and collaborate with our peer Metro cities to solidify our delegation to advocate together for Economic Development priorities. Please read Heath Mello's (President and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber) response to State Auditor Mike Foley's report below: “The recent report from State Auditor Mike Foley completely misses the mark and shows a deep misunderstanding of the effectiveness of TIF as a vital economic development tool.?TIF is the only financing option for growth projects in the City of Omaha and – as Auditor Foley admits – has never been used unlawfully or incorrectly. ? What the Foley report fails to mention is that these projects must satisfy a “but for” test, meaning the projects would not happen without TIF.?No projects mean no increased property tax revenue for schools, cities, and counties – leaving Omaha and other communities to stagnate. ? To compare the downtown Omaha of 1994 to 2024 is to see the benefits of TIF in action.?None of the development you see today would be in place without the use of TIF. Restricting this tool because of a misunderstanding of its use would unnecessarily tie our hands and severely hamper growth. TIF remains one of our best economic development tools to redevelopment North Omaha, South Omaha, and our urban core and we will continue to use it to move our region forward.” https://lnkd.in/g8gngfbm
