Congrats to 22-year employee Jessica Wolfslau-Freeman on her promotion to Executive Operations Manager! ?? Jessica has been with the Council since 2003, and her consistent dedication & expertise have been invaluable to our leadership and Executive Board. She previously served as Administrative Assistant to the Scout Executive since 2011. Jessica will now oversee the Operations Assistant and provide critical support to the Scout Executive and Deputy Scout Executive, including vital board, strategic and operational functions. This advancement reflects Jessica's significant growth and our commitment to strengthening our operational capabilities. Scouts are here to help all communities, including animals ?????? Multiple Eagle Scouts aided area shelters and animal habitats across the region with their projects. Among the hundreds of projects, a few included: ?? dog shelters for the Humane Society of Missouri ?? feral cat homes to monitor intakes for Shelter Friends Inc. ?? rocket-style bat boxes at Vlasis Park ?? duck boxes at Edward & Pat Jones Confluence Point State Park to protect against predators ?? outdoor platforms at PALS Animal Shelter & Rescue Read through more below on each of the projects. Last Saturday, Scouts from across the Council raced in the 72nd Annual Pinewood Derby at World Wide Technology Raceway, combining skills and fun in a four-hour event. The Pinewood Derby is a time-honored tradition across generations of Scouts to test their crafting skills in friendly competition while learning STEM-focused concepts like drag and aerodynamics. This year's event featured STEM activities at the track on top of the day's exciting racing. Thanks to all of our volunteers, WWT Raceway, and groups like the Saint Louis Science Center, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville STEM Center, FIRST TECH CHALLENGE Robotics, Odyssey of the Mind, and the The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum. #Scouting #STEM #PinewoodDerby #racing

No better month than the month of World Wildlife Day to see a local Scout helping conservation missions ??? Matthew M. – New Horizons District – led Troop 505 in assisting the Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center in rehabilitation efforts for local squirrel populations. Missouri is one of 10 states with squirrel hunting, but poaching still arises. And with more squirrels displaced by human efforts, this poses an issue for local populations. Matthew designed and, with the help of his Troop, built 12 squirrel nesting boxes. These structures assist the staff in providing a smoother transition to release back into the wild. When it's time for racing, the Scouts are ready to roll ????? The Pinewood Derby is a Scouting tradition in the St. Louis region unlike any other. Generations of Scouts have taken to carving down their wood blocks and competing in friendly competition, and it's still one of the most energized events on the calendar. As the 72nd running of the Pinewood Derby returns this week, Scouts have been making the rounds to show off their cars and talk about the bonding experience between parents and kids as well as community members who have raced in the past.
