We're disappointed to report that Bill H.R. 9495 has passed the House with a vote of 219-184. The bill now advances to the Senate. ? We would like to thank all of you who took the time to contact your Representatives to ask them to vote no to this bill, as well as?the Representatives who voted no. We are committed to continue to advocate for our Senators to do the same so that?this unjust and problematic bill—one that threatens to harm nonprofits like ours and those we serve—does not become law.
?? Urgent Request: Oppose H.R. 9495 The House of Representatives is expected to soon vote on H.R. 9495, with some anticipating a vote could occur as early as Thursday, November 21. This bill would grant the Department of Treasury the authority to label nonprofits as terrorist-supporting organizations—without due process—and revoke their nonprofit status. We must act. Today, we call on you—our stakeholders, partners, and allies—to join us in urging Congress to oppose H.R. 9495.

Thank you to the Tomayko Foundation for graciously allowing the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council's staff and Board to share space last evening in their beautiful Bloomfield gallery. If you're seeking new art to add to your collection, The Tomayko Foundation -- led by Arts Council Board member Jack Tomayko -- is also generously donating a portion of its proceeds from any artwork sold during the length of their current exhibition to the Arts Council. "Adaptation - Local Notes," featuring the works of 13 artists based in and around the Allegheny County region, is on view through November 22. For more info on the exhibition and to view an exhibition price list, visit https://buff.ly/40HxCZD

In the week following the election, we have seen online and heard in conversation how many of you are grappling with a profound mix of emotions—concern, fear, frustration, and exhaustion. We recognize the very real fear that many of us—particularly Black, immigrant, femme, queer, and disabled artists—are carrying. We want to affirm this: The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is committed to ensuring that the arts—and the freedom to create and express—remain protected and supported as foundational pillars of a healthy, thriving democracy.
