Today’s Greater Oklahoma City Chamber forum featuring Tribal Nations and Economic Development in Oklahoma provided an extremely thoughtful discussion on the Native American Tribes in OK and the positive impact they have on our economy. A 2019 tribal economic impact study noted an injection of over $15 billion in Oklahoma’s economy by the tribes and generation of over 113k jobs, which are held by both tribal and non-tribal citizens. Kent Bush with Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Bill Lance with the Chickasaw Nation, and Bryan Warner with the Cherokee Nation provided insight into the operations of their respective tribes and the heartfelt desire to collaborate with Oklahomans to drive growth and prosperity in our state. I truly enjoyed everything about this panel discussion today. Thank you to the Chamber for spearheading this sharing session.
Chambers of Commerce are more than just networking groups—they’re powerful drivers of local growth. A recent report by Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) and The Harris Poll highlights their impact: ? Driving Local Economic Growth (West South-Central): 51% of people in the region say their local chamber helps attract visitors, boosting local businesses. Additionally, 47% view their chamber as a key player in workforce development, connecting talent with job opportunities. ? Building Trust in Local Businesses (West South-Central): 17% of people say chamber membership dramatically improves their perception of a business—this is the highest rate in the country. ? Supporting Business Success: Nationally, 65% of business owners say their chamber advocates for policies that benefit them, while 62% credit their chamber with helping their business grow. Results from a nationwide public opinion poll indicate chambers of commerce are vital to the prosperity of their communities. Interesting updates at today's Greater Oklahoma City Chamber State of the Economy luncheon, with local experts Robert Dauffenbach, Russell Evans, Mark Snead, and Chad Wilkerson holding a panel discussion on Oklahoma's economy. Positive takeaways - Oklahoma has low unemployment and solid population growth. Negatives mentioned included the current spending and debt trends in Washington DC. Economic futurist Andrew Busch presented a high energy economic recap and delved into the future impact of AI. I am old enough to remember Terminator and Skynet and remain cautious and suspicious of AI, but his presentation certainly outlined some of the good results AI can bring to fruition in manufacturing, agriculture, and other sectors. If a guy that looks like an angry, sunglasses-clad Schwarzenegger shows up, I’m out of here. Anyway, good discussions today! Thanks!
