Transit, walking, and biking connections to local libraries?can create opportunities for community, safety, and public enrichment. A library near Richmond could have been a prime example, but it falls short.

The Washington, DC region is a great – and it can be greater.
关于我们
The Washington, DC, region is a great place to live for so many people, and the Greater Greater Washington community believes it can be a greater place to live for so many more. The mission of Greater Greater Washington is to inform, engage, and influence the public and policy makers to advance racial, economic, and environmental justice in land use, transportation, and housing throughout Greater Washington. We want to live and work in places with sidewalks, bike lanes, and frequent transit; with grocery stores, parks, and plenty of housing choices at attainable prices; that is accessible and welcoming to people of all income levels and backgrounds.

Did you know that 36% of DC residents don’t drive? Yes, really! What would it look like to have a transportation system that serves those residents as well at it serves drivers? Earlier this month, the DC Transportation Equity Network, a project of Greater Greater Washington, organized the DC Week Without Driving to draw attention to the mobility challenges that residents face when — whether due to disability, age, costs, or other reasons — they can’t get around by car. DC councilmembers, DDOT leaders, WMATA leaders, and nearly 30 Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners across all eight wards accepted the challenge! We capped off the week with a book talk with Anna Zivarts, author of “When Driving is Not an Option” and founder of the National Week Without Driving. Owning a car shouldn’t be a necessary prerequisite for reliable, timely, safe, and convenient mobility. I’m grateful to Kai Hall for organizing such an important campaign to raise awareness of the work that still needs to be done to make that a reality.
