Leadership Florence Class of 2025 kicked off their year with a fun and informative 2 day Retreat. Gina Trimarco Klauder of Pivot10 Results facilitated a discussion of leadership principles and strategies on Monday, followed by a dinner and a poolside reception. Day two consisted of team building exercises at Wonderworks Myrtle Beach. Leadership Florence is a comprehensive nine-month program designed to identify, cultivate and motivate leadership in the Pee Dee Area. Participants increase their knowledge of the region and enhance their involvement in community while further developing their leadership skills. The nine-month program (one day a month from September through May) provides an in-depth look at private enterprise, government agencies, organizations, and individuals that make decisions affecting our county every day. Individuals benefit from the Leadership Florence program in several ways, including: a comprehensive understanding of important community issues and organizations, a chance to meet with community leaders, increased leadership abilities, building a diverse network of informed colleagues and expanding contacts. This week, North Vista Elementary welcomed the 2024-2025 Fellows in Education Class to their new school. The Fellows group met with the school principal, Mrs. Sharon Dixon, to learn about the staff educational focus, and creative student interests. Participants then explored the school by participating in a scavenger hunt and later visited select classrooms sessions. They closed the afternoon with a great lunch and a question-and-answer session with Florence 1 Schools Superintendent, Dr. Rich O’Malley. The class of 30 local civic and business leaders will visit 8 different Florence 1 Schools over the next 8 months to share firsthand what is occurring in the district each day as we educate our children. Laura Camper along with staff and Chamber Ambassadors cut their ribbon joining the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce for The Pines at Florence assisted living. The Pines is a live-in care and board for seniors through apartment living with onsite around the clock caregivers and medication technicians. The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce will host the SC Chambers Grassroots Tour Luncheon again this year. The Luncheon is being held on Wednesday, October 2, at the Darlington Raceway Media Center. Doors will open at 11:30am for lunch and the program will begin at 12 noon. Each year, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce partners with regional chambers of commerce throughout South Carolina to present the SC Chamber’s Alliance Grassroots Tour to share a state legislative update for area businesses. The interactive luncheon offers chamber members an opportunity to hear about current legislation impacts from local business and industries. Mike Brenan, President & CEO of the SC Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to attend the event. The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Membership Luncheon on Wednesday, September 25. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing, LLC. in Spartanburg, SC. Since 1992, the BMW Group has invested more than $13.3 billion in its South Carolina operations. As part of a multi-year partnership, BMW and AESC in Florence will supply technology-leading battery cells to be used in the next generation electric vehicle models produced at Plant Spartanburg. BMW Manufacturing is one of the largest BMW Group plants in the world, assembling more than 1,500 vehicles each day. Over half of its vehicles are exported to around 120 global markets, making BMW the largest automotive exporter by value in the United States for nine consecutive years. The program will include the announcement and presentation of the Business Person of the Year award, which is sponsored by First Bank.
