I am excited to share that Chillicothe has made Site Selection Magazine’s Top Micropolitan List for 2024! To qualify for the list a community must have a minimum of two qualifying projects of at least $1 million invested, 20 new jobs created or 20,000 sq. ft. of new or expanded facility space.

Ohio: A Top State for Starting a Business in 2025 Exciting news for entrepreneurs and economic developers: Ohio ranks No. 2 among the best states to start a business in 2025, according to a recent study by Swoop US Funding! The study evaluated factors such as venture capital investments, sales tax rates, health insurance costs, coworking space availability, business success rates, and more. With a startup score of 54.93, Ohio trails only Texas, which scored 55.31. What Sets Ohio Apart? ?? Affordability: Ohio boasts the lowest office rates in the U.S. at $14.82/sq. ft. and ranks in the top 10 for coworking space availability. ?? Venture Capital: $1.33 billion invested in Ohio startups in 2023. ?? Business Survival Rates: 55% of Ohio businesses survive five years—better than the national average of 52%. ?? Entrepreneurship Growth: As of October 2024, Ohio saw 11,950 new business registrations, contributing to a net increase of 2,764 businesses between March 2022 and March 2023. Small businesses are the backbone of Ohio’s economy, making up 99.6% of businesses and employing 43.3% of the state’s workforce in 2024. While challenges remain—21% of businesses fail within their first year—Ohio continues to offer a supportive and affordable environment for entrepreneurs to thrive. Earlier this week, the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative (SODI) - an organization tasked with marketing the Piketon nuclear facility for reindustrialization – donated $50,000 to each of the four JEDISO Partnership counties to support economic development efforts.
